i think Blake said only long periods of the propshaft unbolted will hurt it, not just some dyno time

i dont want to risk it with hard dyno pulls. I think the tune will be more accurate with really street driving too.

k, I'm not the smartest guy on the planet, but my question is, why wouldn't the air filter go towards the fender( flipping the turbo 180' around)? Just wondering what the reasoning for doing it that way.

Any chances you can email me the schematics/diagrams you used to make your harness.? I am bout to do my build..and want to see if I can make my own harness before I go through a vendor who makes them.

Re: My budget LQ4/4L80E build!

looks like i might be able to get it tuned on tuesday.

i also ordered some stock replacement manual Ty style mirrors. the elephant ears just ruin the whole look.

today i finished cutting the hood to clear the turbo too. Its such a tight fin in there with the inner fenders, a/c, heater, and other crap. Put on the pas fender cladding, wired up the aldl connector, hooked up my stock tach, and the tcc switch. I still need to hook up my factory water temp gauge (waiting for a new connector for my 98' camaro sensor), get my speedo the work, and mount a a/c compressor but that will have to wait until summer when i will want it.

Re: My budget LQ4/4L80E build!

quick update. what working on some trans wiring and noticed the oil blockoff on my pan where i have my oil feed was leaking. I pulled it off, resealed it and put it back on. Ended up snapping one of the bolts off in the pan. bad news.

so i had to pull the pan off. I dropped out the front diff and steering and pulled the pan right off. took out the bolt and put everything back together. when i put it on this time i snapped the other bolt:rotf: I was able to pull that one out without taking out the pan. Used some grade 8 units this time. buttoned everything up and continued to work on the trans wiring.

For those of you who want to do an ls1 swap. To use your stock coolant temp gauge you need to buy the coolant temp sensor from a 98' ls1 camaro. they came with 3 wires. 2 to the pcm and 1 to the gauge. This only came on the 98'

At the rate your going, you can do another swap before you get that one tuned.Any idea of a total price to date?

Re: My budget LQ4/4L80E build!

I thought i should update this thread. I have been driving the truck around for about a week. Got a base tune on it right now. I am blowing oil through my turbo seals when the oil pressure gets up there. My restrictor will be here on Friday. It made 350whp and 460wtq at 3500rpm. never when past 3500 on the dyno I am hoping for 500 for both at the wheels when the tune gets finished. Then take it to the track and see where im at before i do anything else (new convertor).

here it is at my school

Re: My budget LQ4/4L80E build!

maybe i am mistaken, but i always thought, that if you don't run the right restrictor and are blowing oil through the seals, doesn't that mean the seals are blown out and junk?

i had a turbo car that had no restrictor when the guy built it, and once i got the restrictor in, it still blew smoke like a mother because the turbo seals had been blown out and were shot.

other than that little question, looks great
