ISTA
International Syclone Typhoon Association!
Steve here from TASTE, the Texas guys. A few moments of your time is all I ask, I wish to plant some seeds for the future.
Everyone on this board owes a big thanks to Patrick Johnson, Brian and Jill Dourty, Jason and Heather Granger, and Gabe and Julie Estrada. They are not the only ones, but this year there would not have been a "Nationals" without them, and I am not sure if several people here know what that means.
First, there have been several good teams over the years, it has not been perfect and never will be, but for this "Association" of owners we have had the best of the best in many respects and our organizers and committees have reflected this.
There have been several nationals and I have been to every one except for 2002 due to personal reasons.
This year the 04 nationals were great as always, even better in some respects, I personally want to say thanks for all the effort, discussions, and for all the things that I have no knowledge about, but know had to have had happen to make it all come together.
I have seen great things, and a community that reflects an American Dream as it should be, but we don't own it, it is for all of our friends world wide, so what have I seen?
1. Owners of expensive, hard to maintain trucks that can leave them open in the parking lot without worry that someone will cause a problem for them. at the hotel, or the race track. That is a nutshell is mutual respect and admiration.
2. Owners that are part of the medical, emergency, law enforcement, military, health related, government and private sector businesses of all kinds, with ONE COMMON LOVE, these tempermental trucks and what they can do, or what they can't do from time to time
3. Men and Women owners that are 19 to 65 years old maybe more.
4. Women and Men that share there experiences and are always quick to "help out" when they can. Is it a tip on insurance, a tip on a repair or "where to get it", or is it just "I need to borrow a wrench, piece of vacuum line, or do they just jump under your truck and bust a knuckle? Gee your time at the track is not right, lets see if something is up. Think about that....
5. How about (4) count them, (4) pregnant women that we know of? at the nationals? How about that, GOD BLESS them and what is to come. But to another degree it says something else too doesn't it...
6. Anything from late night "jump the fiberglass rock with a moped competition" to "SoCal" decals in the elevators, to the infamous "Kak", it just goes on and on...
Ok guys, here it is, there will be an annoucement soon as to when and where the 05 Nationals will be held.
It is time to start participating, time to come and see the what it is all about, time to bring your truck, plan a vacation, bring the family members and be with another family of friends from all walks of life that share a common interest, goal, passion, and view.
Some call it an "Alarm Clock", I call it an "Opportunity Clock", it is easy to get sidetracked and caught up in a lot of things these days, but a little planning, drive and setting a goal to "Be There" will give you something to look forward to and there is plenty for everyone to do...
Do you really want to thank the committee(s) for what they have done in the past and for what is to come in 05?
Do you want to be part of something that crosses age, sex, job and exists despite the differences?
As the great ex-president Reagan once said, "I believe in the inherent goodness of people and what they can accomplish"
Say thankyou this coming year by just being there, show up, be part of it for a change, don't sit on the sidelines like a football game, be a participant.
Sincerely,
Steve
