Need advice on IC lines please...

I am upgrading to the 3/4" goodyear heater hose and I have a question. I would like to keep the lines as far away as possible from the motor, however I do not want to go through the passenger side fender (I would like to be able to remove my CAC if needed to work on the truck without draining it). I was thinking of the driver fender. I would like to keep the engine bay as clean as possible and try to hide them as best I can. Plus, I figure that longer lines = more coolant. My only problem is that they will come in contact with the oil filter and lines. Will the filter and lines get too hot against the rubber hose? Would it be possible to make a "huggie" for my filter (like to keep a beer cold) and insulate it?

I appreciate any input...thank you!

Here is my theory on doing the 3/4 hose. You dont want the lines super long as it will want to heat soak more since it will take longer to get down to the CCHE....but to short, you wont have sufficient time to cool.

Ive never see them done into the driver fender. I have seen them done into the pass fender. When I used to have them on my Sy, I routed them in the same direction you have, but then turned them down next to the brake booster and right down along the frame. Never saw any heat soak and temps stayed cool.

I dont think you will get any major heat soak issues routed them next to the oil lines. If you are that worried, get some of that foam pipe insulator stuff and just do 4-5" right in the area its next to the filter.

I ran mine the same up top then through the lowest part of the fender. I wouldn't run it that close to the oil lines.

i don't understand how putting the lines through the pass fender makes it anymore difficult to remove the IC than putting them through the driver fender. i had my lines through the pass fender and could still remove it just fine when needed....w/o draining. makes for less line.

I ran mine thru passenger side fender .Spliced in two T's to aid in burping the system. Upgraded to a ford lightening (dont throw any darts) pump form a little more flow . Saved a little loot. Slight moods same (stock position) location just a little bigger.

No issues with removing ic, most times I havent had to drain it. Hell get low and open the drain plug.

I've got mine through the passenger side fender and I don't have any issues moving the IC aside... pretty easy actually... you can see the route on my photobucket page (link in sig).

Here is how I do all stock SYTY's.If ABS is present, I mount the pump in the stock location and run the lines down between the engine and the fender. This set up is how I did it on my wife's Ty

I went ahead and ran them "the old fashion way". Between the oil lines and the sharp edges of the fender openings (not to mention the heat soak comment by SYO) I decided against it. The reason I didn't go the passenger side route was because I wanted to get away from using the 90* pieces needed to make that tight turn behind the CAC. I have seen people go under the AC when going that way (hence the comment about making it easier to work on the truck if I wanted to move the CAC out of the way). This way seemed easiest for me and it turned out ok.

Thank you to the guys that chimed in. I appreciate it very much.

In those photos...do you have a 2nd IC pump mounted on the fenderwell or it that your only one?

Re: Need advice on IC lines please...

if you are worried about heat soak, get some 1" insultube from any heating and air supply, or 1" split tube insulation from Lowes and put it on any of the hose exposed to engine heat.

Seeing your pic there, I like that idea and wanna go that route with mine for my next project. What pump did you get? Able to be mounted in the stock location or slight modification needed?

Re: Need advice on IC lines please...

The pre-molded plastic PEX fittings make life easier when it comes to routing the lines. They're made for household water flow, so restriction isnt a huge issue. My Ty has them right behind the upper IC to make the bend, and they work great. I can still disconnect it and bungee cord it to the hood to get at stuff when I need to.

One pump. It may look that way because of how the other line goes but it just goes to the other side of the pump that is mounted where the ABS went. I used a Shurflo pump.

Interesting you mention PEX... I'm kinda surprised guys haven't tried PEX for line. It's considerably lighter than rubber hose.

More fluid capacity is actually a good thing. At a certain point, the tradeoff of weight vs. cooling capacity comes into play.

Re: Need advice on IC lines please...

I realize this may be off topic here, but how hot did you guys factory formed lines get. I've always heard talk about heat transfer from the intake to the factory metal lines. Mine seem always cool to the touch. nothing special other than Johnson pump hotwired, and 160* t stat. Just curious!

They get hot. Personally I have never seen recorded temps on the whole thing but to me, the sheer inconvenience of them was enough to make me ditch the set up.

Being able to easily take the upper IC off to change the cap and rotor - priceless.
