Wondering what causes that "like diesel" sound when accelerating. Sound is pretty loud and it might not be normal?

there is a really good write up somewhere on here for engine removal..... might want to study it. sounds more like lower end mainly rod bearings wiped out th me.

Re: Noisy engine.

Just wondering have you made any adjustments lately or messed with anything?

I have seen cam lobes go.. due to in correct adjustments.. I have also seen a rocker arm explode and make same noise. I replaced rocker arm in Chevelle. Cheap over seas metal. I heard similar noise and shut the car down as soon as I heard it. The oiling orfice on these overseas or reproduced parts were wayyyyy different than the original stuff under the hood. Very small like a pin hole and the oil was not even squirting. compared to original hole and design..

Just some food for thought as you may have been working or adjusting? or it could possibly just be something failing due to being worn out or dated..

Not messed anything... I think it always been a bit noisy. When listen THIS Quickstop's video, maybe similar sound, when accelerate, not so loud but still?
Not exhaust, it's mechanical sound and it can be heard well from top of the engine

Re: Noisy engine.

I found my noise after 5 years - mine was because I filed the exhaust manifold slightly to get it on the truck when I first assembled it . I feel pretty embarrassed about that as I spent a fortune in time and money trying to rectify the problem but I learned. It only became apparent when I realised the noise got louder when the engine was under load. I removed my turbo blanket and saw all the soot in there. Pathognomonic for an exhaust leak.

Yours sounds like upper valvetrain. It's going pretty fast.

First thing you need to do is check your valves are all adjusted correctly. A loose rocker arm would be an easy fix.

Can you identify what side it is from?

Ok, thank you all for responses.
I took valve covers off and think that rockers are pretty loose... what you think aboutTHIS?

Re: Noisy engine.

Those look pretty loose to me.

At the very least, there should be a whole turn of preload after 0 lash. (Page 6A-3-9 of the manual, Jimmy Sonoma Service Manual).

I saw you twisting the push rods but can you pull them out and push them in? I was surprised to see the rocker so mobile in there. I think if you adjust them all, it will sound a lot better.

Re: Noisy engine.

I'm still learning, but even I can tell you those are way too loose or are very worn on the stud. I'd re-adjust all of them to make sure everything is in line and see if the noise stops.

Re: Noisy engine.

Late to the party, but definitely loose rocker sound. Been there when I had some roller rockers that used to keep working their way loose even when 'locked'. What Quickstop said - valve lash is set on hydraulic lifters after zero. Shouldn't be able to move the pushrod up or down. Bigger issue is why the rocker can move left-to-right?

Very easy to set valve lash. Check specs and go through them all once. Rocker should rock, not shimmy, sway, and buck.

Re: Noisy engine.

OK, now that you adjusted them, they should all be tight. Are they? Maybe you have a collapsed lifter or two.

Have you done a compression test on the motor? That would show if your valves weren't opening all the way.

Any material in your oil filter from bearings?

Do you have a wideband installed by any chance? Mine is doing the exact same thing, and it's going lean when you do that when the engine is warm.

Re: Noisy engine.

Watching his video, like mine, it only does it as soon as he opens the throttle.

Does it go away when you hold the rpms steady at say 1500rpms?
