Re: Pikes Peak Truck

I thought it went back to the shop that built it.
Could have been somewhere in CO.
That was the last report from redd.

Re: Pikes Peak Truck

I know the story was that it overheated about 2/3 of the way up the climb, but was on record pace until then...I tried to get footage from pikes peak hill climb assoc directly ...they searched the raw footage, but did'nt have much to say on it....

I was wondering why a shop would modify a one-off vehicle like that without contacting this board for advice on what enthusiasts think would work best ...??? We screwede up enuff stuff to know! Some shops, and so many mechanics are overconfident and think they can and should do everything themselves... Palmer should have been posting day and nite on this board if he was dedicated to winning that race...and he should have raced it year after year until he won...instead of giving up... It was apparently really hauling ass until it overheated...

my 2 cents.

:stupid:
Could you imagine what that truck would have done if Race Proven Motors or Campbell Automotive or Turbotime had built it? UNFREAKINGBELIEVABLE it could have been. But,you got some rich bitch knows everything taking it to "somebody" who's smoking his pole, what do you expect?

I say **** him and the horse he rode in on. :haha: it overheated.

And he threw a tantrum too. :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

Everytime this truck gets brought up I see new pics that I can save.

That's not cladding. I talked to the guy that did the body work. The truck is a fiberglass shell laid over a tube frame. It's a purpose built vehicle made to look like a syclone because the owner likes syty's. The bed side is one large molded piece. There is no "bed" in it to speak of. He said he would do more but it would take considerable tweaking to make it work.

Hi George-

Not to discredit you or your source, but look at the blow pic:

Is that not a PAS issued Radiator Support decal?

Re: Pikes Peak Truck

The stock radiator support was used. There are no inner fenders. That is all tubular construction. IIRC, the shell of the cab was used but the doors are fiberglass, the "frame" of the truck isn't there. It is all tubular construction with mounts welded to it. He was told to make it look as much like "factory" as possible on the outside and he did an amazing job at that.
The guy's name was Brian. Brian Coats Fabrication I think. He said if you did buy the bedsides, it's possible to "lay the shell over your bed" but it would take some work.
Oh, and I don't think the radiator is in the front either. I'm about 80% sure it was in the bed.
During the climb, they'll get clogged up with debris if it's in the front.
It's been a while but it ended up, IIRC again, that they somehow lost about 1/2 the capacity of the fuel system meaning it couldn't keep pressure up and it fell way off pace. I don't think it even finished.
