Project: Underhood Clean and Cool (lots of pics)

My truck looked great once it was finished getting painted. The exterior was beautiful and the interior was stock and clean. It was great to show off to people, but evevetably someone would always want me to pop the hood. So it needed to be cleaned. I tried degreaser, scrubbing, a hose, high pressure, scrub brushes but nothing worked. It always looked like a beat old 15 year old truck. I only had one choice. Strip it, replace it, blast it, and repaint it.
I also had another issue under the hood. My stock Typhoon was running way too hot. I needed to cool the water down and get some colder intake air. I may as well while Im tearing my engine bay down.

So here is the before pic when I first got the truck.

Re: Project: Underhood Clean and Cool

I started by pulling off the stock air crossover tube and airbox. I realized that it was cracked by the turbo inlet. Time for a battery relocate and cold air kit w/ a K&N filter!

This is what the engine bay looked like after some cleaning...

I started pulling off parts. Intake plenum, intercooler, lower intake, valve covers, inner fender, batt tray, alternator, power steering, accessory brackets, power steering pump, CAC, etc etc

Here is what the inner fender looked like

Re: Project: Underhood Clean and Cool

i find a nice dousing with simple green always works for my trucks. I spray em down heavily then let it sit for a while (days even) then go back for round 2 simple g. After a few dousings to break a lot of crud up, i become not so lazy and decide to actually clean up. Start brushing a little, then spray some water at it high pressure, always works wonders.
For dressing i use meguires rich leather conditioner (yes on rubber plastic everything, it rocks)

Oh but yeah, looks good, your Ty wasnt too bad originally, thank god; my lady's black ty had like a foot of grease, what a pain to clean. Hehehe its amazing what a little paint on a 15 year old fender does :D
