Mike, from what he said on the phone, the 10553 comes with a spring to make it a higher pressure pump. Not sure how that works but that is what hes said.

On summit it is listed as a kit - is that why?
They provide a pump drive shaft, hence it is a kit.

Guys - I just had a really good converstion with the North Eastern Regional Sales manager from Melling about this and he said that the above screen shot is from their 2006 brochure and is erroneous. (Mike!!)

He sent me their 2007 one and here is an excerpt from the text re: the M Select line 10553 pump
Melling said:
Performance upgrade for M-55 & M-55A. Uses 5/8” press in screen, recommend 12550 drive
shaft. Standard volume oil pump. The housing and cover are CNC machined and manganese
phosphate coated. Manufactured with pink spring installed for higher pressure (M-55A). To change pump to lower pressure (M-55) install the supplied yellow spring.

To make the situation even more complicated, Summit are still listing this part as a normal pressure pump. He acknowledged that it had cost them some business and is a disorganised situation hence he took the proactive decision to call me.

Now I just need to find someone that stocks the melling select pump 10553 with the spring in it!!!

Hope this helps a little.

The 10550 that I just ordered came with the pink spring (high pressure) installed and came with a hardened shaft

from Summit? If so then I will order one too.

Can you see the spring without taking it apart?
