Re: Ram Air Spooling
You will ABSOLUTELY gain from ram air into the turbo. On my old Sy, I made up a ram air deal for the track only. There was no filter, just a ram air pipe right into the turbo. I used a stock headlight bucket, and welded a 2.5" 90degree mandrell bend on the back of it. So at the track, I would just take the headlight out quick, and put this in, in it's place. The stock elbow hose that normally goes to the crossover tube, went right onto the back of the mandrell bent pipe. So it was straight ram air, right into the turbo.
I made 3 runs without that piece install. All 3 runs were 13.2-13.1 @ 103-104mph. I put that piece on quick, which took less than 5 minutes, and made 3 more runs, all of them were 13.06-13.03 @ 107. Nothing else on the truck was changed, NOTHING.
So yes, you will pick up some power with a ram air. Obviously, mine was for the track only, but I think the debate here is whether or not you'd gain anything......the answer is yes.
