Re: Simple Syclone Rebuild

Uh thanks but $250 won't help me much on a uber huge Renz turbo:rotf:

Heh, all you need is seven more donations and you'll be all set :)! I see that you got one of my block off plates when you bought Mark's truck. If you need to use any of my engraving skills, I can do anything ya want. Since you are going to be a "syty sweetheart" of sorts on here, I will do it for free...

Mandi,
Have you drawn first blood yet? If you do (hoping it is nothing serious - be careful) make sure to post pictures. Your post is inspiring...I actually went and did some work on my truck after seeing your post here. Thanks for getting my ass somewhat in gear.

you're welcome (I think lol)........even after all I have learned from Harmon's builds and .net I'm still very excited about my build.

I got a small slice from a clamp but that was just irritating and burned when I got gas on it:tup:

I also want to say I appreciate all you guys supporting me, you really are a great bunch of guys (and a couple gals):D

Day #4 - Didn't do much today, lotsa stuff going on today. Took the front cladding, bumper (thanks Davep and Steve) fenders and fender wells:tup: Found some dates on the cladding 1/25/91. We are almost positive I do not have a stock motor:rant: Hopefully tomorrow I can get the motor pulled and confirm what block it is.

Re: Simple Syclone Rebuild

Is this what I have to look forward to? I cant wait. It really sucks to be (Smokey) me. I had some one in a Civic try me and I had to let him go... I probably could have taken him (with all my 5 cylinders and minimal boost) but why chance it and tarnish the rep of Typhoons every where. I am waiting on the machine shop to get back to me on the build. I will keep you posted.
BTW I find it inspiring that you are doing all of this work. I would show this thread to my wife but she would not get/appreciate it. Keep up the great work. You have shown more progress in 4 days with your Sy than most guys (including me).

Harmon has the Mexisy.....not any worse than smokey:tup:

We could still always just hang out, take the sytys out back to the "strip", you don't need a reason to come up:tup:

I'm really enjoying working on the truck, I have spent my whole life "watching" my dad and Harmon work on them and always wanted to learn and do my own, ITS ABOUT TIME I DID IT! Please show it to the wife, girls CAN do it too! (we just need a breaker bar and a set of muscles handy just in case lol) I'm also hoping to maybe get more girls involved in their own builds.

I envy him... I would rather drive a MexiSy instead of the Toyota (Corolla) Sea Turtle :rant:that I will be using as a daily driver.

Nice work Mandi! I can't even get my girlfriend to learn how to change her oil!!! Lol

To the point you're at I would have already had every knuckle sliced up... You're way ahead of the game with only one little slice! :rotf:

I think Harmon is making you learn things the hard way... He has you taking apart the motor IN the truck and after all that you took the fenders off... Would have been easier to pull the fenders first since you were doing it anyway but hey... if you ever have to do any engine repairs with it still in the truck you're way ahead of that learning curve.

He hasn't really told me the easy way or hard way, just points me in a direction and I go to it:tup: He's not good with other people but he learns me well lol

why you taking off the fenders?

Everything is getting painted also, changed my mind on the metallic grey cladding, going black on that:tup: We decided it would look better with the eo wheels that I want

My goal is Shindig!

****** AC box is toast along with my turbo, found a crack in the box and yea the turbo is just fooked lol

Re: Simple Syclone Rebuild

Ok it's official sy #187 is motorless!!!!!
030.jpg

We found the motor and heads to not be syty specific, the block is a 96 4.3 so that does not work well for me. I will be putting in a stock syty 92 block that Harmon has in the shop. Frame doesnt look too bad so we might be able to clean it up and use it.

As previously stated the AC box is toast along with the turbo. Harmon found a guy that can use the 3 turbos we have to build me a nice one with a warranty (whoa!).

Still haven't drawn blood:tup:

Looking at lots of cleaning, braided spark plug lines, new brake lines, rebuilt "stock" turbo, heater box, new paint, swap the bed with the one on the trailer, new doors.......thats all I can think of for now.

I'm tossing around rasp/black as opposed to rasp/metallic gray, what do you guys think?

Re: Simple Syclone Rebuild

Wow a motor out and not one busted knuckle?? That has got to be a first! The engine bays are tight on these trucks and loosing some skin is not uncommon!

Come over some time, I'll show you how it's done:lol: In fact it is funny how the whole year it took me to build my TY up with a VERY extensive amount of work/fabbing, I had not one single injury or complaint. When I posted those pics of my new air filter set up, I cut the living crap out of my finger taking a bolt off the fender. Dug my finger between the fender edge and the wrench at "high speed" All in about 2 minutes time.

So you are going to throw in a stock motor? What fun is that?:rotf: Was all of this in your original plans or is simple just a word at this point? The Raspberry and gray or silver what ever it was in your sig you had looked sweet!! I'd rock that any day. I think black may be too much of a contrast but just me:2cents:
