Our country has a strange sense of justice some times... It could go this way which would be a crime in it's self.
Guy brings truck to shop.. shop rips off guy... guy looses money.. .guy tries to warn other people. shop sues customer for slander... guy now out first amount of money .. now more and is in jail.

Normally, I ignore ridiculous threads like these, but several of you have asked for and wondered what my side of the story is. Its simple really. Don Nelson brought his truck to my shop and it was quickly diagnosed with a blown engine. He agreed to leave it despite my telling him I could not give him a turn around time due to the large number of vehicles in line ahead of him. We came up with a build list, and he sent a deposit. It wasn’t long after that the phone calls and emails started. When, when, when, was all I heard. I repeatedly reminded him of the trucks ahead of him and that we were moving forward. When this continued, I even decided to use a block we had in production (we have a bunch of core blocks we use) and designated it for him to just get him done and go away. That wasn’t good enough. Suddenly he shows up with the cops and demands his parts. Being unannounced and having a busy week, I told him he had to come back. We then gathered all HIS stock and original parts and made them ready for him when he came back. He declared these parts weren’t his and refused to take them. That’s when the problems started. We did a lot of work on his behalf (including other work not involving the motor) He wanted his deposit back. It’s a DEPOSIT, He’s not getting a refund. This guy is psycho, he told me the experience was actually worse than his divorce! When his truck was broken into, he told me that after hearing the news, he hung up and cried. Mr. Nelson has harassed me with phone calls, texts, and email messages. I have documented 314 text messages in one 18 hour period. He has even harassed my wife on Facebook! You wouldn’t even BELIEVE the hysterical, obscene and threatening voicemails I have gotten! I have an attorney on retainer, and he should realize he is VERY close to being arrested for harassment.
Eric Scofield bought a unassembled, basket case truck from one of our customers. After harassing us for months and threatening us with everything but nuclear annihilation, we finished building the truck. On the first test drive, it was clear the trans was slipping. I had never previously drove it. It came with a rod sticking out of the block. So we sold him a good used tranny. When we were done, he told me he didn’t have the money to pay for it!! For the first time in fourteen years of business, we agreed to payments to help him out. Yes, the truck was supposed to be painted and tuned. We told him he would have to get it painted himself (we never charged him for painting, obviously) We also told him he could bring it back for tuning after he finished his payments. (we made sure at least the base tune was safe, just not optimized) Once he had the truck in his possession, he was a jerk. When he started making demands, I stopped helping him. Have someone else tune it, I said. He got what he paid for, and more. We did what we could to help him and that wasn’t enough. Some people you just cant please.
I have been in Business for 14 years. I have a 100 percent ebay feedback. I am not a dishonest, a crook, or criminal. My record stands for itself. A handful of people are unhappy. Id like there to be none. But in the real world, that doesn’t happen. People chiming in only to say I heard this, or I heard that, doesn’t help. This site allows it. Whatever. That’s why I don’t support the community anymore. Doesn’t make sense anymore. Know this, I will not hesitate to pursue legal remedies against people who commit Libel or slander against me or my business. The courts take this stuff seriously. So do I.

Wow....that's the best you can offer after we waited almost six months for your response? That's a joke Reffet. I had a bad feeling about Nelson's build from the moment he told me you called to report a "blown motor". That truck ran under it's own power from Lafayette to Rockford (216 miles) and it was hitting just fine on all six cylinders.
Lets forget that and pretend that it did need a rebuild. Why don't you try again to explain the length of time you had the truck. I was right there when you told Don that he would have his truck back in 8-12 weeks. Care to reason as to how that turned into over 100 weeks and ZERO progress to show for it. Don't give me that "Well I had X amount of vehicles ahead of him" cause that's a load of shit and you know it. There are at least 50 people in the Lafayette/West Lafayette area that are well aware of the real timeline here. :roll:

I have been following this story silently as it has progressed, and although I am not a lawyer or knowledgeable in legalities of anything involved in this discussion, but what I see here is a discussion and story about an experience had between a vendor and customer. I don't really see any slanderous remarks being made towards the vendor being discussed. This is a forum to express opinions, and experiences tactfully about any and all experiences about our trucks regardless on whether it be positive or negative. This is what a forum is for. Sharing information for benefit of anyone to use it to whatever extent they so choose.
I understand that there are two sides to every story, and anyone is welcome to relay whatever information they choose. As long as it is done with tact and no personal attacking or name calling or defamation of character takes place. I have read all sides of this experience and will come up with my own opinions based on the information here.
I personally will not get involved in this discussion other than this short post, because I have no involvement whatsoever. However I will feel free to read these opinions and about someone else's experiences.
I will however say one last thing here which is what made me post this note in the first place. As stated earlier, I am no legal expert, nor am I even remotely pretending to be, but I wonder exactly what would constitute slander anyways? I seem to recall having read somewhere in a recent post that someone blatantly made a comment about a specific person by name "This guy is a psycho..." and in another statement made a comment about another specific person by name "he was a jerk."
Just thought that I would point that out.

2. I paid the ORIGINAL agreed upon price on delivery of the UNFINISHED truck, and paid the balance within less than a month.
3. Truck did not go to body shop. -$1000 from agreed price
4. charge of $900+ to hang front fenders
5. Slipping trans... origianlly verbaly promised it was in good working order add another $1000 to bill

7. Truck leaked oil and coolant from turbo days after delivery

Please show me where I called Reffett or anyone for that matter a "thief." I simply stated that he would not give me my stuff back. Who would like to see the Love's Park police statement where it is documented that Reffett told his employee to "just throw some pistons on the skid for Don." Reffett must not have known what he had given me back, because my pistons were actually tossed into the bed of my truck. The pistons that RR tried to make me think were mine were half melted, looking like some sort of NOS meltdown. The block he had on the skid which "they" told me was mine had chunks missing from it. I drove the truck to his shop with no problems, 250 miles, not smoking or making a single noise out of the normal, those parts were not mine, they were only intended to pacify me. Ummmm....they did not! Reffett....my truck was not quickly diagnosed with a blown engine. I have the phone message where you called me over a week later telling me you needed to talk to me about it. The truck was left at your shop for a tune and a couple of other small items that you said would take about a week. That my dear friend is why it was left at your shop. Over the phone is when you told me it would take 8 to 12 weeks. You quickly got my money then removed my engine. That is where it came to a halt. You say I have harassed you with phone calls. If calling you trying to get my stuff back is harassment then so be it. You have only answered the phone twice when I was calling you to try and get my stuff back...and that was to call me names. i am by no means a lawyer, but here is how i understand it to be.
telling your opinion that he is an ass hole, is opinion, and is not illegal.
telling about the facts of your case is giving info to potential customers, and is not illegal.
libel is telling something you have no direct involvement in, or cannot prove, to do damage to someones business, this kind of thing is illegal.
this is speculation on your part (it may or may not be true, i have no idea) unless you can prove they are off someones truck
