Pull a valve cover to check rockers use an indicator to find out lift and bore scope through spark plug hole. That should tell you most of what he claims. When I sold my 383 I had to do more than that to make him happy, but that motor was a 1000hp motor and I sold it for close to a 10k.

That last photo you posted gives me hope. If this is a deal you get a good gut feeling on then I would roll with it. If an $800 dollar hickey is the difference between a running and a sitting vehicle then maybe it is ok to let it walk. In the end it is a gamble unless you tear the engine down in the guy's garage after he takes you on a 11 second run. If it were my current situation I would take that deal pending some more details. If half of the claims are true there is more than that amount of money in parts.

It's better to have loved and lost, than never loved before...lol. $600 would make me feel better. Looks like a hillbilly's dream... Oh wait it would be a v8 then. You need to find out if it has forged pistons that's really the only thing making it better than a stock motor.

That motor isn't going to ever be a real prize. Run it and puke it. If it is all its claimed you should be able to lean on it pretty hard for a while. Say 500hp level. If you are looking to make more than that you need to build something or have some proof of what it is.

The fact it is carbed n a hot hillbilly mess tells me that its dressed up POS. So like I said if you have pistons maybe u ha e something better then stock. No splayed mains? I vote low ball him bc almost no one is looking for a 4.3. Take it home ride hard and get another one. Or pay up and get a real motor. GL

Do you have a running engine in your truck currently? What are your plans? Were you wanting a engine you can drop in and be done with it? Or just a engine so you can get your truck back in running condition?

it's $800, i'd buy it just for the parts on it... they could easily be cleaned and resold... there's fools out there (like myself) that would pay for some separated parts on it.

The parts that you have seen that it has are probably worth a few hundred. What is the going cost of a rebuildable longblock? See if you can buy it for about that cost.

But for the work involved. I would not take a chance and drop a engine in hoping everything would be fine for my truck. I personally would tear it down and make sure what you had. I would do that on any used engine. It's not much fun doing a R&R of a engine.

Unless you want to learn how to tune or pay someone to tune it for you. I would recommend not putting a engine in that has a non stock SyTy cam or any other non stock part that would require you to change your tune. Keeping it simple is just easier.

A modded truck can be great but it takes effort and a lot more money.
