Slower burn?

One of the biggest killers of our engines , from what I understand, is detonation and another is EGT resulting in burnt whatevers.

A lot of ppl are going to the alcohol injection on these engines. I know that the 50/50 mix of water and methanol cools the intake charge which in turn makes more hp. Doesn't the slower burn rate of meth also help stop the detonation?

What about mixing some Nitro Methane in with the methanol and doing away with the water all together for say a race set-up or as the second kit on your truck? One kit for street and daily stuff and one for that little bit extra. I would think that if you installed two kits on one truck, all you would have to do is turn one off and the other one on.

Doesn't nitro methane burn slower than methanol? Maybe a 15% mix nitro/meth?

I know from beeing around Blown Alcohol Engines, 15% will really make a huge difference.

Another in a long line of DAQ's,

Re: Slower burn?

Maybe even Propane injection. David (guy who built my truck) put a turbo Colt on propane and it was as awesome as it was ugly. Much faster than it was on gasoline.

Could we run a SY/TY or even a SGT on propane alone?

Re: Slower burn?

You can add or run Nitromethane in your water inj. system, it will increase your egt's gotta watch that.
And for the record, I never ran Nitromethane in my Syclone.
Goodluck using it.!

What about the propane? Would you have to put a propane carb on the truck to run that? From what I've seen and heard, it would make monster hp.

Re: Slower burn?

Propane has a higher octane valve than pump gas... but it will not have the same effect as nitromethane.
Just add a little & try it out?
Start w/1%. It made my Friends Camaro run from 11.80's to 11.30's w/about 2% maybe less of nitromethane.

Re: Slower burn?

What I was asking was about doing away with the gasoline, alky, nitro, and everything else and run just the propane. A guy I know of runs a propane powered twin turbo'ed BBC dragboat that runs in the high 6's in the quarter. Just wondering what one of these trucks might do w/ it.

Re: Slower burn?

if i remember correctly (it was college) to run propane only you'd have to replace seals in the motor.. since propane will eat away at the gaskets/seals in there now

Re: Slower burn?

It would run alot cleaner. Has a higher octane rating, than regular pump gas.
More power output... thats debatable. ;)

I was part of a team the rebuilt a hybrid saturn.. it has a geo metro 3cyl motor and 2 electric motors.. the 3cyl ran on propane and to get it to run on propane we had to replace all gaskets/seals.

Re: Slower burn?

GM has a lot of Duramax trucks over here running on propane. The civilians are using them. Haven't had the chance to see under the hood of one yet. I wonder if the regulator and other delivery goodies would flow enough to support 25psi @ 6000rpm?

Re: Slower burn?

I would say try it. The Lee County Sheriff here has used propane crown vics since 92 or 93. Some guys liked it some say they are slower.

Deisel guys run propane injection for some decent results.

yes, you can mix anything with diesel.
regular gas is another story.

Here's another one for you. Have you ever heard of mixing Naptha in with your fuel? It slows the burn of the mix, makes more hp, and stops detonation. Just a rumor.

(Naptha: Zippo lighter fluid)

I wasn't saying for him to try a propane inection, I was only showing it has performance capabilities... to a point.

Re: Slower burn?

there is also LPG, which looks alot like propane, alot of US cars over here are running that stuff cause it's 50% cheaper than normal gas, rated at 110octane.
i have been thinhing about this for a while, with the new systems you actually spray liquid gas, and HP ratings on N/A card are about +10%, imagine it you tune a turbocharged car with that..
Bad thing.. since i'am stuck in europe, it will be a bitch to be the first person to try it out.
but LPG is also being sold in the USA,!

if i ever get around running my car on LPG, i will for sure use it as a Daily driver, and the GF can drive to her work everyday in a SyTy.
