Re: Some Goodies for the Ty
Steven,
Given this $hitty weather, I'd prefer to postpone this. I have Monday off if you want to come over then? I actually have a pile of new parts like yours to install on the Z71...damn this weather! We could have your chip, injectors, and 3BAR installed in less than two hours. What kind of boost controller are you going to use?
Adam made some good points about the intercooler mounting and such. For my TB hose, I had a bead welded around the edge of the inlet. The rubber RPM hose was still backing off with only 15psi of boost, but I retightened it and now it won't blow off at 18psi. I think having the T bracket welded onto the upper pipe is the right way to go...I still need to do this. Oh yeah, I don't care for that black IC-to-TB transition hose that comes with the RPM kit; I'm going to replace it with a smooth hose if and when I can find one.
One thing you'll notice is the RPM intercoolers tend to be situated toward the driver's side after mounting. For aesthetic reasons, I decided I'd rather have mine mounted more toward the center. Here is a pic, for reference:
Still not perfect, but close enough for me. The only problem I ran into with moving the core toward the passenger side was the turbo outlet IC pipe would no longer line up with the core inlet. A 6" 45-degree silicon hose (cut to fit) solved that problem. I was planning on welding a scoop to that core, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Also, I recommend wrapping the IC piping to minimize heat soak:
Just wear face protection when working with the stuff. It's full of glass fibers and you don't want to be breathing that crap. Anyway, the RPM A2A rocks and you will love it. HTH.
