Orlando FL, 2008

Now, to pick an exact date for the event. The general consensus seems to be around Fall 2008 so as not to conflict with Homecoming or Nats. So, I've nominated the following dates

Oct 3-5th
Nov 7-9th

Since both locations have operating theme parks and dragstrips that time of year, it's down to preference only.

I left a third poll option for other weekends, so if you vote that, please list a weekend for us to consider.

Thanks!

I'd like to add another option to the pole;

"Meet, who needs a stinking meet."

6 days left to vote on LOCATION..... once that poll is closed, we need to focus over here and get some dates set!

Id like to get the dates set by the end of Nov.

I voted the weekend of the street nats. Because if orlando win's the location poll, we're going to need something fun to do as a group. And that'd look sick having 15+ trucks up at the street nats. That would also be a great time to get some magazine coverage if we planned things right.

Unless one date has a runaway victory, let's end date voting on Nov 30th. That'll give us almost a year to get the ball rolling (which we'll need with some aspects of this meet).

I also reserved www.sytyshindig.com so be on the lookout for a page for the meet soon. It'll have all the key information (location, date, schedule, etc...).

Need to get the votes flowing over here now..... the location poll is closing tomorrow night and we are looking to have the date set by the end of Nov. We have over 35 votes for the location. This is going to turn out to be a killer event if everyone stays dedicated!

And just think of the number if those from their states would chime in.

Orlando is the location guys, so let's get to voting on a date. Once this is settled we can start some serious planning.

Looking forward to a great event!

Tim is there a website where we can find more info on the street nats? Could influence my date vote...

They havent, and probably wont list the dates for next year until March or so. But it's usually been on the same week every year. So the last weekend in October. The only thing I'm wondering is that it gets a little cooler down here the first-second week of November. Before that its still in the upper 80's..

Re: Southeast SyTy Shindig - Date Planning

Getting cooler in November would be a reason to vote November. It's not like it will be cold, low to mid 80's is plenty warm. I think my times at Nats would have been better if it would have been upper 70's instead of upper 80's.

Part of the reason that I hesitate to vote is that I don't know what my schedule will look like a year from now. I'm worried that I'll vote for one date, that date will win the vote by one, and then I won't be able to go on that date. Then, I won't be able to go AND it will be all my fault.

I'm not really that worried about it, but I wonder if going during street nats would be the best time to go or the worst time. Would we only get one or two passes at the track because of the crowds? Would the cops be swarming all over and ticketing everyone for any little thing just to keep people in line? If we DON'T go during street nats would we miss out on a really big and cool car show(and be sorry that we missed it by one week)? Would the cops let the little stuff go and only stop people for big stuff because there are too many people to watch?

And, like you said, we won't know when the street nats are till next year.

Re: Southeast SyTy Shindig - Date Planning

I dont think a span of a few days is giong to make a big impact on weather. One day its hot, the next it might be cool....just luck of the draw. Right now we have a nice cold front that has given us some really nice cool turbo lovin temps.

Street Nats is pretty cool.... on friday night, most of the cars are DRIVEN up I-Drive and there's a big show at Race Rock. At the end of the night, even though they kinda forbid it, you get to see alot of burnouts and small displays of horsepower as they drive back to their trailers.

Cops wont be any different than the usual. The majority of people will be staying in east orlando near the UCF area since thats where Orlando Speedworld is close to. Depending on where we want to do the location of the event, we can avoid the crowd. There is plenty of streetracing in the area.

You can forget running at the track. It will probably be taken up by the event for test n tune for them. Alot of those guys come out a week or 2 prior to start getting ready. Me personally, not a big deal to run at the track....much rather drive all stupid with a group of trucks on the road.

I havent been in the last 2 years. I dont think missing it would be a huge ordeal, theres really nothing about it that is syty specific, just some badass cars to go watch...... but it gives the group something to go do one day.

Pretty sure it will be the same weekend.....its been the same now for a long time.
