ah well crap, i guess ill just ride up there next time some of the local motorcycle guys go :squint:

It'd definitely be nice to have a meet up there and even caravan the gap, but no way we'd do it at speed. Too risky for most, plus we'd be holding up every Ferrari and Porsche out there.

But, yeah, our trucks understeer considerably from the factory. In autocrossing, I can get a decent slide, but it requires some severe slide-inducing manuevers and isn't nice to the tires....otherwise, it likes to push. Run a SyTy on a 54 sec course and then hop into a real car (like the 7 I'm building) and instantly run 10 sec faster.....makes you shake your head at how hard you hafta push our trucks. Of course, coilovers, sway bars, etc... all help and can make the truck quite enjoyable out there. I rarely autocross my truck, so coilovers, rear sway bar, and V710 tires are all I've done.

Hood, you must need driving lessons. I can run a ~1 minute autocross and I'm about 5 seconds faster than any non-Z06 Vette out there running stock class. A stock Z06 is only 2 seconds faster than I am. I could slide the rear at will until I did the Addco rear bar. Now the front pushes, I'm hoping when I swap out the front bar with the Belltech front one it will be neutral again.

yeah that was my understanding, but i thought they must of been highly modded and had to much power for their own good. Because i thought that was one of the big selling points of this truck was that it out peformed a Lambo on a road course.

Yeah, well....my truck is far from easy to slide. Of course, I've never autoX'd it w/o the V710s, rear sway bar, and coilovers, so maybe that's where the trouble lies. I'm easily faster than anything in F Stock or ESP, but I'm still much slower and less stable than other cars I drive.

I'm sure I do need some driving lessons (hell, that's no secret), but I've been AutoXing and road racing for several years now, so I'm clear on how to get around a curve and some cones properly. I haven't run Solo much since getting into road racing, and to be honest coming from a track day to an autoX course requires a fair amount of mental changes on my part.

I did run my buddy's stock Sy in FS once before and it is easier to get the rear out, but still not what I'd consider lively. Still wanted to push quite badly.

Who said it was a Miata? Of course our trucks will handle a lot better than most street cars, that's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is that despite the pretty decent handling of the truck, there are always gonna be times when it's just that....a truck. And at Deal's Gap, you'd find a lot of people realizing that they aren't driving a Ferrari, or Porsche, or.......Miata, but that they are in fact driving a truck, and with that, there are some handling sacrifices (body roll, understeer, undersized brakes, etc...). But like I said, it'd still be fun to go there and have a meet.....no one has to drive the TotD like it's a race.

Do I like my truck? Yep.
Do I autocross it? Yep.
Are SyTys some of the best handling trucks made? IMO, Yep.
Are the majority of them great at handling? Nope.
Does it matter and are they still a blast to take a corner fast in? Nope and heck yeah.

While our AWD (er....3WD) system does it's job quite well, you've got to understand that our AWD is fairly dumb and was never intended for all-out handling purposes.....it was for traction and accident avoidance and some stability. Assuming our trucks handle like an Audi or a Skyline because they have AWD is like assuming an F150 is fast like a Corvette because it has a V8.

Anywho.....all of this is just my opinion. All of my data comes from the fair amount of road racing and autocrossing I've done with the truck. I still have a great time racing the truck and would encourage everyone else to do so.

Yeah, I agree. Like Adam and I have said, the more attendees we have from other SE states, the better chance we have of moving the meet each year to a new location. With enough attendance and interest we could def do a meet at Deal's Gap.

So its looking like we need to extend the poll out a bit longer. Im assuming everyone is busy and doesnt have time to hang out on .net all day like some of us.

Re: Southeast SyTy Shindig - Date Planning

Got to playing with the pocket bike more tonight. Been riding it somewhat nice to get it broken in. Spent $20 and got some new stiffer clutch springs and pegs...huge difference on the bottom end, bike gets up and goes... the pegs are straight slide ons, not clamp style like the POS stockers.

Before hand, I could stand over the bike and give it gas and it just wanted to roll out from under me and just go.... after the springs, it does a burnout, heh.

Even after the clutch spring change, noticed that I get up in speed and the engine RPM just seemed like it was struggling and I wasnt getting full power. Definatley felt slower than Popes bike. When I first got the bike, I noticed that the stock plastic velocity stack behind the air filter was this tiny little dime size hole. I left it alone until I got some ride time and the motor was broken in.

So today, I busted out the dremel and I cut the entire middle section out of the velocity stack and put everything back together.

Holy crap. I took off and now the RPMs go way up and I must have gained an easy 8-10mph and now it finally does feel as fast as Pope's ride. Burnouts are even easier...and Ive been brave enough to do some stunting and pulled off some decent wheelies
new_Eyecrazy.gif

So im gonna do one last cheapo mod and go ahead and get a 72 tooth rear sprocket for some more top end speed. I should be good enough to go from 50:1 gas mix to a 25:1. Definatley running super rich, cause I gotta clean up oil afterwards

Hood, Pope.... you gotta make Miami meet so we can get some time trials going

Re: Southeast SyTy Shindig - Date Planning

Alright.... T-Day is over. We need to get on the ball and get a date set for the event.

It seems people are up in the air for the dates posted up. Some want to do it during the Street Nats, others want to avoid Halloween and be able to hit the track.

I will ask now.... do we want to reset the dates and move it earlier in Oct or later in Nov to accomodate schedules and miss holidays/events? If so, everyone needs to speak up....Hood and I cant guess on what everyone is thinking. We want to do this event and have a big turnout and make it fun. That requires feedback.

Hood has been working on sytyshindig.com and taking a sneak peak it already looks pretty good for the short amount of time he worked on it. We are working on the T-shirt design as well.

So..... do we want to revamp and pick some new dates?

Re: Southeast SyTy Shindig - Date Planning

Yeah, we definitely need to know date/location by the end of 2007. The dates originally posted were just a startng point, so we're more than willing to accomodate any other suggestions. As it stands right now, someone or a group of us would be forced to say, "Okay, it's gonna be on _____." And while we'll do that if it comes to it, we'd rather not. I know we're not gonna please everyone, but just like the location poll, majority rule......well.......rules.

So, if you have an opinion on the matter, please voice it. Believe me....you're not gonna step on any toes.

Thanks all!

BTW, the sytyshindig.com site has info up that was used for sizing and design purposes, so please don't assume that we've already decided on a date or registration fees. That info is not correct at this point.

Yeah, this date shit does need to get finished. Cause I have to put in for time at work a good bit in advance. Remember I work for teh state, so I cant just put in for this a week or two in advance and get it. It would have to be at least 6 months in advance.. So start picking dates.

I think you should reset it, and leave off the last option. Because those 6 votes can untie this whole thing. (hopefully)

These are the other dates around the ones on the poll already.

Oct 17-19th
Nov 7-9th
Nov 14-16th
