Re: Split : RPM/Mike Lee/SyTy Perf

I have come to realize that i am going to take the heat for every and all problems. As a customer you are not concerned about how the parts are getting made or who is physically making them. You just want parts. At the same time, there is only so much I can do physically and financially to please everyone. While i make one person happy i upset another. It is physically impossible to keep everyone happy. When a supplier tells me 2 weeks, i tell you two weeks. I dont just make stuff up. When someone calls me 5 times a day, 4 days a week looking for a progress report they don't take no for an answer. If i say it will be done when its done i hear "this is my daily driver, this is the only time of year i can drive the car, i'm gonna miss the nats, i can't drive my car without this part, blah blah". And instead of finding someone else to do the work (because they can't), it becomes my fault.

So i am constantly being pulled from all angles. I admit i can be guilty of overcommitment. I do it everyday. I work too many hours at the cost of spending time with my family, i offer to build one off headers, and intercoolers when i don't even have a free truck to mock something up with, I spend thousands in raw materials just so i can make $100 and save you hundreds (ie: headers, intercoolers, suspension kits, crossmembers, exhaust systems, valve covers, oil pans, etc etc) Financially, making parts for these trucks is a horrible decision and the sole reason why nobody else does. I don't have the heart to throw in the towel just yet, b/c i love these trucks and a majority of the owners. But as everyday passes i realize i spend WAY to much of my time pleasing people to make $2, then focusing on something that will actually pay the bills.

While many are here bashing me, i am still answering threads, PMs, emails, etc offering technical support as i always do. I do not hide from taking care of business whether it is refund, or standing behind my product. I have a list of projects i would rather pay people to make go away, yet for some reason i must practically kill myself to make it happen. God forbid i discontinue a part, the person who just spent their life savings on their syty will never be able to drive it or start the engine unless i build them this part. oh yeh, and i charge too much for what they are getting... Sounds like the SYTY community is in need of a government bail out plan..

x2. When I had my company I quickly found out I could never please everyone.. seems everyone needed something special, or needed it yesterday because they procrastinated in ordering, or wanted it but didn't have the money ready, or wanted Saturday delivery because their customer just had to have the part, and on and on it went. I just about killed myself trying to please everyone. We did have some great customers that kept me going... they'd go out of their way to thank us for what we did, or for going the extra mile when no-one else would... those are the people that made it worth while to stick with it - the rest I just learned to let go of as being the perpetual whiners they would always be.

I think anyone who owns one of these trucks has to be thankful we have vendors who will produce ANYTHING for these trucks... God knows no-one is going to get rich off of making SyTy parts...someone has to do it because they are passionate about it.

I send out a big "Thanks" to all the vendors who make stuff for us... even if there is the occassional hiccup... the world is never going to be perfect! Best thing all of us can do is be upfront, communicate effectively, and have some patience... from both sides of the fence.

Re: Can't catch a break - broke an a-arm

I understand that you are a business and that you probably outsource 90% of what you offer. Ordering it from a third party then waiting for it to arrive then shipping it out to the customer takes up alot of time. Then you say that outsourcing it saves us money. If you want to save us money just tell us where to buy the stuff. Of course alot of us have figured that out and have cut out the middleman.
Please Mike,
Come back to your grass roots and be honest.
If someone has had this problem before just say yea or nea.
I am not trying to run off a vendor. Im just trying to help him improve what he has started.
Thank you,
Dennis Harmon <====My real name

not sure why i am wasting my time re-visiting this post but i was curious why Harmon had a negative buying experience (since he expressed it in a recent post). I think alittle of your story can be accurate but please dont make it sound like i strung you out on a order for 5 months and promised your several times it would ship the following day. Yes there were some delays (mainly the intercooler piping) and we screwed up and sent the wrong exhaust mid pipe and you got some incorrect clamps, however both were taken care of right away. Also keep in mind that instead of delaying your order till it was fully complete, i shipped multiple packages (all at my expense) so you would have something to work on.

Am I "scatterbrained"? absolutely.. i have too much going on and cant afford a payroll of 10 employees to keep a dead SYTY market happy. I have hired a couple good workers, but even they can forget what gets packaged in a kit, make mistakes etc. I put in 16 hour days to make sure emails are answered, phones answered, orders taken, products shipped, parts built, etc. If you can handle all these tasks and not be scatterbrained then please send in your application for hire.

Do we outsource all our products?
NO. Anyone who has actually been to our shop can vouch for what really goes on. We do not buy products that someone else designed and mark them up for a profit. We have designed, tested and fabricated just about every "custom" product we sell. Headers, Downpipes, Bolt On Turbos, Intercooler Kits, Electric Fans Conversions, A/C Delete, Suspension Kits, Exhaust Kits, Double Pumper Fuel System Kits, Torsion Bar Deletes, Valve Covers, EFI Conversions, Sheetmetal Plenums, Motor Mounts, Steering Shafts,Throttle Bodies, etc.

The vast majority of this stuff is all done in house. If it is not done in house, it is because i choose to maintain certain relationships with those vendors who have helped and supported us from day one. It is not the most convenient or cost effective way, but morally it is the right thing to do. I'm not going to burn bridges to save a couple bucks here and there. They build the stuff when i order it, so there is no secret network you can just call up and find all these parts. But these parts are small items which are never on backorder more then a couple days. The things that take time are ones we have pre-bent, stamped, cut whatever in order to make them cost effective. When they come in we still need to cut, trim, weld, deburr, etc. I cant really think of anything we have made and just stick in a box to ship. Like i said, the majority of these products are machined, welded, or assembled in house. Why else would I have (2) cnc machines, (5) welders, and a slew of other manufacturing equipment i pay business property tax on every year? It saves you money because i am not paying someone to build one offs here and there.

Why do i take credit for someone else "building and fabbing the motor for your truck"?
First off, get your facts straight. You probably saw the video on Nelson's website and assumed he built everything. He has never done ANY machine work, assembly, etc for us. He simply let us use his dyno b/c he is our next door neighbor. Unfortunately there are people like you who assume certain things, and like to spread rumors that i just bought some engine and want to take all the credit.. If you had been around for the last 15 years you would actually know what i went through to build such a beast. I sold the motor b/c i was the one doing all the work and i didnt have the time or patience of dealing with it anymore.

In conclusion if you have a problem with me, my services or my company take the time to either call or email me first. I can take the constructive criticism as long as it isn't sugar coated.

Re: Split : RPM/Mike Lee/SyTy Perf

Just saw this post, I think i have one of the 1st sets. They havent had any problems. But it does worry me.

Im not messing with it anytime soon. But lets say in the next 3-6 months, will you still Fix/replace them? If i get them shipped back to you.

Truck still needs paint, and must be kept rolling for the time being.

My experience with RPM and mike was great. I got a stage 3 turbonetic's turbo and i was having issues getting my setup running right. Mike was very helpful in directing me to get the turbo to run right with my setup. It took some time but in the end, it's running awesome and Mike helped me via phone .....A LOT. I really appriciate your help mike!

THANK YOU AGAIN!

Re: Split : RPM/Mike Lee/SyTy Perf

Wow, what is all this BS in this thread? There was a slight problem with a product that was addressed by the vendor. The problem has been clearly dealt with and the vendor is taking full responsibility. I'm going to have to agree that all of the negativity just hurts the community as a whole. In the short time I have been involved with the SyTy community nearly everyone I have met is more then willing to give a helping hand. However, it does not take long to find those who are negative about everything. I guess compared to all of the other forums I have been to this still has the least child maturity level threads.
