Re: Stock Turbo Record Goes to 11.94!!! Now with Video
I have said this before but Tom makes a perfect point. The whole point of his truck is to push the tuning side of things and show what can be done. For us it is a "how fast can we go with the minimum". I built several parts for these trucks and we could have easily thrown more parts at it. But that would defeat the goal of the truck. The only real big mod was the 4L80e and that was after 3 700's were destroyed. It did turn out to be a good exercise though to dismiss all the bogus bullshit posts and information about the 4l80e requiring more power to operate. Plus George built one darn nice trans.
We have tried to list all the mods we have ever done to his truck several times but just so everybody knows here they are again.
- BONE STOCK 60k mile MOTOR (intake never been off)
- Stock turbo
- 3" dp, wastegate puck removed, rear housing ported. No porting to wheel section. WG puck on is enlarged for better boost control.
- 4l80e (bare minimum build, ~3400 stall, but still drives like stocker)
- Eaton rear diff (after we blew up stocker)
- BFG Drag Radials (to get the 60 ft times down)
- Razor's alky kit
- CBR Front brakes (to hold for the 17psi launches)
- Upgraded rear brake shoes, cylinders (again to hold for launch)
- Solid motor mount on drivers side only (since stocker broke)
- Custom tune (as I suggest all truck have)
- Lots of boost (17psi launch, 27psi at the end of the track)
This has taken us almost 3 years to get all the things worked out. As anybody at nats has seen though this truck is driven and driven hard. It has made the trip to KC now 3 times and I have NEVER seen the truck on a trailer.
There are no secrets here. I have even debated about posting up the chip nothing secret in it either, I am just afraid someone might blow up something if they do not know what they are doing.
The real secret is it takes time and thinking. We spent as much money over lunch discussing things as we have on parts. Robert and I had the same discussion when he was here, you must look at everything. You can make gobs of power but if it doesn't get to the ground your done. Attention to details is key. When you get to these levels of tuning also realize you may not find the answers just written. You must figure them out on your own. It takes time. For example who would Robert even ask about running 7's in a syclone? If he woke up tomorrow and decided to do that, he would have to mostly figure it out himself. No difference for us.
Our next goal is even faster, although we will be making some changes that will bump us out of stock turbo class even though we want to keep stock turbo for now. We have some ideas, and none of them will be expensive. Any bets we can run sub 11.50's on stock turbo?
Anybody has questions feel free to post them.
