im sure there are a lot of guys right now scratching their heads saying "how come he can do that with so little modification and my fully built truck wont get out of the 12's??" Shows how crazy-important tuning is! ! i know with all the tuning ive done over the years ive had my truck it runs better at 10psi than it did at 18 when i bought it.

There should also be emphasis that tuning is more than just chipping. The entire system has to work well togethor to make things like this possible. I don't know how many times they changed pressure in the tires, new setups on the suspension (with or without limiters, more or less turns on the limiters, etc), as well as the meth setup. It's a SYSTEM that makes you go fast, not the chip.

If Jeff would spend less time working on Jeremy's truck he might get his own running. :)

Congrats Jeremy!

I have said this before but Tom makes a perfect point. The whole point of his truck is to push the tuning side of things and show what can be done. For us it is a "how fast can we go with the minimum". I built several parts for these trucks and we could have easily thrown more parts at it. But that would defeat the goal of the truck. The only real big mod was the 4L80e and that was after 3 700's were destroyed. It did turn out to be a good exercise though to dismiss all the bogus bullshit posts and information about the 4l80e requiring more power to operate. Plus George built one darn nice trans.

We have tried to list all the mods we have ever done to his truck several times but just so everybody knows here they are again.
  • BONE STOCK 60k mile MOTOR (intake never been off)
  • Stock turbo
  • 3" dp, wastegate puck removed, rear housing ported. No porting to wheel section. WG puck on is enlarged for better boost control.
  • 4l80e (bare minimum build, ~3400 stall, but still drives like stocker)
  • Eaton rear diff (after we blew up stocker)
  • BFG Drag Radials (to get the 60 ft times down)
  • Razor's alky kit
  • CBR Front brakes (to hold for the 17psi launches)
  • Upgraded rear brake shoes, cylinders (again to hold for launch)
  • Solid motor mount on drivers side only (since stocker broke)
  • Custom tune (as I suggest all truck have)
  • Lots of boost (17psi launch, 27psi at the end of the track)
This has taken us almost 3 years to get all the things worked out. As anybody at nats has seen though this truck is driven and driven hard. It has made the trip to KC now 3 times and I have NEVER seen the truck on a trailer.

There are no secrets here. I have even debated about posting up the chip nothing secret in it either, I am just afraid someone might blow up something if they do not know what they are doing.

The real secret is it takes time and thinking. We spent as much money over lunch discussing things as we have on parts. Robert and I had the same discussion when he was here, you must look at everything. You can make gobs of power but if it doesn't get to the ground your done. Attention to details is key. When you get to these levels of tuning also realize you may not find the answers just written. You must figure them out on your own. It takes time. For example who would Robert even ask about running 7's in a syclone? If he woke up tomorrow and decided to do that, he would have to mostly figure it out himself. No difference for us.

Our next goal is even faster, although we will be making some changes that will bump us out of stock turbo class even though we want to keep stock turbo for now. We have some ideas, and none of them will be expensive. Any bets we can run sub 11.50's on stock turbo?

Anybody has questions feel free to post them.

how much extra do you think you can get by swapping in the new $59 code?

I think we could see an 11.8X

The biggest will be the same chip for track could be used on the street. Where I have done a few things on his chip to help spool for track only which hurts drivability on the street. With 59 I wouldn't need to do as much I don't think.

Are you willing to talk anymore about this, since the general consensus is that anything over the low 20's and your wasting time because the amount of heat created cancels out any amount of boost over that?

Is that just a urban legend or did you find a way to do something different?

Tell you anything you want to know.

Basically what your looking for is air density. That is a combination of heat and pressure.

You can have high pressure, high heat and have LESS density, then lower pressure/heat.

Sure the stock turbo is making some heat at 27psi, but we are spraying meth at it to cool it back down. It works. Ideal, no but it is working obviously.

When the boost gauge goes up to 27psi, you can actually feel more power. It is strange.

The 27psi only jumps up when it hits OD with convertor locked since the load on the motor goes up a bit, before that is sits are 24psi or so.

Also note I am running JSM 3" DP with dump. It free's up exhaust some allowing more boost with some gain. In my truck there is a distinct S.O.T.P. diffrence between 20 psi and 24 psi. Of course the Methanol Helps a ton at cooling MAT's. My mat's were in 60-70 degree range during my runs in the 11's.

Thanx guy's I really appreciate the info!! Getting information out to other's like the fact you CAN run 27psi on a stock turbo and it be efficiant will hopefully sway some more people into thinking about tuning instead of just opting for the bigger turbo's.

Jeremy...I wanted to ask about WHEN your mods trashed the stock 700 trans ? Also how many passes and at what boost did this show its ugly head ?
Like most others , I'm quite impressed with what you guys have acomplished with such tight perameters preset !

The only real change is the drag radials since the 700's died.

The first 700 was his original stocker
2nd was my old typhoon one, stock rebuild nothing special.
3rd had ~$1000 in hard parts in it, lasted 100 miles or so and a sprag I think broke. $10 part but still broke. It was at that point we went 80e as I was finishing up the kit anyways and was good test vehicle.

ET wise it was 12.57 seemed to be the point when stuff started to break (trans, rear-end, transfer case).

That sounds right to me as well, however I'm sure Jeremy will chime in and correct us :D

I think that was summer before last right? He came walking into the shop one day with no truck (broken prop shaft), then pulled in the driveway like two weeks later, and it wouldn't pull back out (broken VC in the transfer case), Then a few weeks later testing the brakes the rear end kersploded.....Seems like there were a few trannys in there in that same time as well.

Close. The Prop shaft ,rear end then the Transfer case. Followed by 3 700r4's. But yes right around the 12.5 range and I was trapping at 106-107 mph. Then the stock turbo went out this Spring.

Needless to say I have broken my share of parts!!!!
