as far as drilling it goes - what about the bolt that the nut actually goes on? Last time I drilled it, the bolt was savaged, or does that just mean I need to be careful?
Ideally I want to be able to replace only the 4 locking nuts. If I go the allen key route, then I need 20 locking nuts!!!
On the two damaged wheels, what do I meed to do to get the bolts fixed? Cut them off, then redrill and then tap in a counterthreaded bolt? Or will there be a professional wheel repairer that can do that?
Thanks for the help!
SonomaGTlover said:Sometimes you can get a socket to fit over the entire locking nut too.(not in the key pattern) Same method, hammer it on and use a big ratchet. This is what I did and it worked great. I think it was a 16pt 13/16" that I used but could be wrong. Be sure to hammer it back off once it's loose.
A set of Vise grips should solve your problem in that pic. Looks like a little rust on the lugnuts, maybe add some penetrant and then some "pipe dope" to the new bolts. Once you get all 4 of those key locks off, I would throw them as far away from your truck as possible. I changed mine to the standard hex as the keys strip very easy. Within a few months of that I had different wheels anyways. Good luck!army helo pilot said:basically, this is what I am trying to avoid...

Is that easy to fix?
Thanks for the input all - I especially like the bfh technique!! Now to find a disposable socket..Can you use it on more than one locking nut?
