The diff came out nice! Yeah we really tore into that thing and got a lot done. Did you remove the front diff yet?

Sorry for the late reply my bald brother. Haven't removed the front diff yet as its been raining too much. Thanks for the help again. We got a crap load done that day:tup:

I would suggest that you weld up the axle tubes while you got it out. This will make them much stronger to twisting. GM just spot welded the tubes.

Thanks for the tip. I would have, but you need to straighten the axles after you weld them and i really dont know how to do that. I have the rear end in my Impala SS welded and straightened and it seems mighty strong, however it is also a 8.5" 10 bolt. If this stock rear end lets go, i will build a 8.5" for it.

Matt, It is all eastwood paint and primer. It is the gloss balck extreme chasis coating. It seems to go on nicely. We will se how it holds up. Thanks for the kind words.

See ya,

Re: Syclone Gut Swap

Well I have hit a big problem :( The motor that I bought off of John @ Xplicit Racing Design appears to be junk and needs some reworking. The more I dig into this motor the more stuff that I find that is wrong

It all started a few weeks ago when I pulled out the intake manifold to head bolts to replace them with stainless ones and some studs in various locations. I noticed that the bolts closest to the water passages were covered with coolant corrision. This lead me to pulling off the intake to only find a head gasket failure that was letting oil leak out to the outside of the block right by the head to block oil drain passage.

Now heres where it get real nice. The #3 cylinder wall is gouged from what looks like a piston/ring failure. Its kinda funny that all of the pistons in the motor are TRW except for this one which is a speed pro. It also looks much newer that the "origional" TRW's that were in there, kinda makes me wonder what else is wrong.

So I am planning to: Send the heads back to Brodix to have them gone through, have a local engine builder check out the short block to see if it is useable. If so i will have them deck the block (to get rid of the o-rings), bore the cylinder walls, check the rotating assembly (balance?), install new bearings, possibly a custom grind cam, and new pistons if needed.

So thats were I am at. Sucks real bad as I bought this motor as a "ready to run, perfect shape, very low mileage, etc...."

So I learned one strong lesson here, dont buy used shit off anyone that is not well known. Especially if you cant drive over to there place to give them a little motivation to make things right. As of now all my recent phone calls to John @ Xplicit racing design have gone gone unanswered and he has not returned any of my messages

Looks like if you want shit done right you gotta do it yourself. As of now I have been burned twice by people on this forum and as the old saying goes: 1st time shame on you, 2nd time shame. I hope there isn't a 3rd.

Mods is there any way that we can bring back the for sale page from when i bought this motor. It seems that John has erased it :squint:

Re: Syclone Gut Swap

Well I went on a little snooping mission and found this post: http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=15958
Kinda explains why the 3rd cylinder wall on the motor is jacked up and it has a newer piston in it.
I wish I would have known this before:tdown:
See ya,

That sucks man. Good luck - nice work so far.

His for sale post might be cached if you search for it on google - George Blake's posts were lost for a little while but someone found them using that search feature. I don't remember how exactly...

Re: Syclone Gut Swap

Thanks Mike. I will take some pics of the bad cylider wall and post them up. I will also try to call Xplicit racing design again, but that will most likely go unanswered. Lets see what will happen??

Re: Syclone Gut Swap

Well I just talked to John @ Xplicit and he said that this is new news to him. He knew that it got a new piston for the #3 cylinder but he didn't have any idea about the jacked up cylinder wall. He said that he is willing to cover the costs to make it right. Now its time to go to the machine shop and see what they have to say. Stay tuned....

Well that's sounds a lot better than if he were to say F-U.
Hopefully everything works out to your satisfaction.

Great looking truck, that sucks about the engine. I was wondering if that thunder racing is the complete rear end or if it's just the cover. If it's the cover, do you know which part # that is. Makes a total difference on the rear end. Thanks

Re: Syclone Gut Swap

It's just the cover. The cover is available for all 7.5 10-bolts from Thunder so you can look it up for an F-body if you want. It's the same.

Thanks, just ordered, however what sucks is they no longer have the one that is on Z Ski's, similiar but it doesn't say Thunder Racing, it's just engraved TR or something to that effect. I just ordered it and will post a pic!

Yeah I think he has had that cover for awhile so it's possible they changed it.
