I did this mod to my bud's syclone as well as my own and it has performed flawlessly for over two years now. We were both having the dreaded hot start problems and after eliminating the purple wire, both our trucks have started fine. Both of us DID NOT replace the starter, we continued to use the SAME ONE that wasn't working before the mod. Removing the purple wire from the equation fixed the problem in both our cases. HTH's

:rant: Although workable, I would disagree with this system. If, and this is a big if, the starter itself is ok then the copper link is unnecessary. What you’re really trying to do is send full battery voltage to the starter solenoid without the resistance/voltage-drop of the key switch. (The starter itself already has full voltage because of the bat cable attached to it.) So, change, replace, whatever the purple wire only. Using the key to activate a solenoid that, in turn, independently sends full bat voltage to the starter solenoid is the only “correct” fix. :rant:
