The LS2 has an advantage over the LS1, bigger bore size and higher factory ratings.
Just be careful buying one of the LS motors used. They can only take a .010" overbore, which means if the cylinder walls are scored or damaged in almost any way, the block is scrap. They can't be sleeved using the conventional process (like you'd do with an iron block), so you end up buying a fresh alum block (~$1k) from GM. The iron block motors can be overbored, but they weigh 80+ lbs more (LQ4 / LQ9, etc).
