Need more info, What are your power goals? Will you be running stock ecm or standalone system? What are teh specs on the bottom end?

okie dokie nolan,

i got a fast stand alone, forged pistons, rods and i'll probably order a nitraded crank to go with the four bolt main conversion. i'm looking for max power without splitting the factory block, since a bowtie is a little out of the budget right now. so i'm figuring on a dbb turbo but i'd hate to go above 3200 stall on the tranny. i was kinda leaning toward a gt35r but i'm not really sure.

Re: turbo and cam suggestions

gart i have no idea on the size turbo ...but i really really like innovatives new f2 line of turbos. nolan and the other guru's can def put you on the right size based on you actual build and goals.

Uhm... that's not a goal. Max power is what everbody wants.

How fast do you want to run? Stock block can go low 10s, but you're pushing the longevity of it.

What is your total budget? This will affect the decisions you make.

A GT35r is well within the limits of the factory block, and can possibly net you 10s with a well-tuned FAST system.

Re: turbo and cam suggestions

With a stock Nitraded crank I would not go for much beyond the 700hp mark. It will live if pushed once in a blue moon above that point but not for long.

With that and the fact you want a tight stall I would run a dual ballbearing PT-67 ptrim.
We just had a motor on the engine dyno yesterday that was a stock block, stock crank combo with vortec heads, stock intake, ATR headers, stock intercooler with pump gas and meth. It made 670hp and 770lbs at 23psi. With more boost and a good intercooler 700+ hp would be pretty easy. The spool of that turbo was insane!!

As far as cam we used our custom cam.I would not use a 422

Re: turbo and cam suggestions

that sounds about like what i wanna do there nolan. i was thinking something round a 62-67 sized turbo if i didn't go with a gt35r. i appriciate it, i'll be looking your way over the next few months while i'm in iraq for those parts.

well turbodig, looking back i guess i wasn't as descriptive as i thought on what i wanted. as far as running it at max power, that'd be a blue moon thing cause i don't make it to the track often and just like to play on the street. i'm figuring my street tune will just be 15lbs with a 22 or 23lb track tune. now if we get extended for the full six months, i think a bowtie and forged block would be in the budged but i'd rather not have that kinda budget.

Were the heads ported, or were they basically stock? And how much power do you think the headers gave you on that build? And was that with a stand alone, or the stock ecm?

That is the build I'm doing. Without the headers that is(and ported heads).. And its nice seeing what kind of power you guys are making with that build. Gives me something to look foward too.

The 422 is an off the shelf cam for NA stuff, although not the worst cam for turbo and better than stock, not ideal turbo cam either.

Nolan obviously has done homework probably more than anybody on a dyno with syty motors and turbos. I'd say he knows what to do.

I know when I needed a cam for my ty motor I called him up to spec and order it.

Don't get me wrong the 422 will work. Just depends on built etc what will work best.

NA cams work great in turbo motors that have very little exhaust back pressure.

Re: turbo and cam suggestions

They are ported Vortec heads. We find headers are worth 20-30 hp depending on the build. The larger builds there is more of a differance. It was using a Bigstuff3 but that makes no differance at all for me atleast.
