Typhoon Bolt in 4 Link Success

Re: Typhoon Bolt in 4 Link Success

I am heading to memphis this weekend with top fuel bike, the plan right now is next weekend to pull the test pieces off the test truck, reverse engineer a few things, gather a complete parts list, and create the welding jigs and fixtures needed. From there 5 kits will be sent out/sold to people ready to install ASAP for testing and feedback.

A lot of time and money has been invested in order to go from just a 1 off kit, to something we can produce and be confident in, which is no small step. Its coming really soon, just a lot of other things on my plate like a real job, family, etc.

Re: Typhoon Bolt in 4 Link Success

I know what you mean. It's one thing to make one of something for yourself, but to be able to reproduce them in any quantity and have them all exactly the same is a lot harder. And when you're doing it as a hobby and balancing work and personal life, it takes a lot of time.

We appreciate all your hard work and pioneering the project.

There has been a need and desire for a 4 link rear setup on the Syclone and Typhoon for many years and none of the big companies have taken interest. I've talked to a lot of people about making it and got no interest.

About a month ago, I was at a car show in Charlotte, NC with my Grand National. A couple guys walked up talking about the car and introduced themselves. One of them was John Hotchkis Jr. I told him I had 2 of his sway bars on the GN and he smiled. He said they had opened a shop in Mooresville, NC and the other guy, Ron Thiel, was the VP of Operations. I asked them about a 4 link for the Typhoon and they were all YES, WE CAN DO IT. But when I talked to Ron the next week and he talked back to John, it was the same ole story. If I left the Typhoon with them they would go through and replace all the worn bushings, new shocks, sway bars, etc. But they couldn't give me any idea what it would take to do a 4 link or how they would even attempt to do it. Same with a couple other suspension companies in and around Race City, U.S.A.

So you are doing what the big dogs have not been able to do. Keep up the good work. I look forward to seeing the final product and hopefully running it one day.

I was just in Rock HIll last weekend. A friend of mine lives there, old Nascar guy you might know about.

I will be back in August to Rockingham though.

Its coming, for example I am in Memphis right now with Dave Alwine and the top fuel bike team.

Re: Typhoon Bolt in 4 Link Success

Keeping you guys updated. Saturday the test truck got brought back and torn apart for inspection and to develop production jigs and final parts list.

Everything came apart well. After a several hour delay due to my Tig welder not working saturday we made huge progress on fixture design. I will be in Denver this weekend coming up, the weekend after final jig development will be done, and at least 1 production/test kit sent for testing.

If anybody is near Louisville Kentucky area or willing to bring a typhoon to Louisville and wants to be a test rig with free install PM me. Show up in the morning, you will be back on the road with 4 link shortly after lunch.

When this comes to production I would be interested in an 8.5 kit.

Re: Typhoon Bolt in 4 Link Success

kit looks great - since one of my leafsprings seems to be getting tired letting the truck lean to one side, i´d be interestet in a kit for the sy, as long as shipping it to austria wouldn´t double the costs;-)

i only know of a 3 link design for the sy/s10 to clear the gastank using a new crossmember raising the tank, but i guess a true 4 link design should handle better and be more stable.

i was already tempted to buy one of these:

Would this work on our trucks? Syclone / Typhoon both?

i tried to order the 3 link kit from thorbros - wont even bother to answer my mail asking for shipping...

Re: Typhoon Bolt in 4 Link Success

Is this a go? I'm looking into suspension options as well and have a 4 link in another project and I love it.. I'd be looking to buy in a few months while on deployment. Will this be a go?

Re: Typhoon Bolt in 4 Link Success

ttt - please jsm, do a kit for the syclone now

the grantkusotms kit anryo postet seems to be discontinued - at least i cant find it on their homepage anymore, of course not after i asked about shipping it to austria.

so, out of the 3 good kits out there one is gone (grantkustoms), one company wont even answer with a FY on my question for shipping their kit (suicidedoors.com), and one tries to charge me 600 - for the shipping. (lowriderdepot)

sorry for the rant, but this is getting frustrating.

maybe one of the boeardmembers has contacts to suicidedoors.com, or made bussines with them before and can help me get them to ship a kit to austria, or maybe can forward a kit to me - i´d of course pay you for your effort.

Re: Typhoon Bolt in 4 Link Success

The service at suicidedoors has majorly gone down. I used to buy there products in the past, but with the bagging scene getting so big during that time, he could not keep up with supply and demand. I know he lost a lot of his employees to. I'm friends with him on fb, and mostly see him reply pretty quick on there. Don't expect a quick shipping time though. Last I knew he was 6 months out just on control arms alone. There is another shop building what your looking for I just can't remember the name. I'll report back when I do. Are you looking for a 100% bolt in 3 link? Or can it be weld in?

JSM typhoon kits are ready for orders, contact me in Private for details. Also, we have a syclone available for development of the sy specific kit and expect to announce a ready kit soon.

Re: Typhoon Bolt in 4 Link Success

thanks for the info pearl!

the kit can be weld-in too, no problem - i just want to keep my stock gastank what limits the options a bit. maybe you remember the shops name.

and let´s see how long jsm needs to finish his sy kit - would of course prefer to support our vendors, but my leafspring is on it´s last leg

What is the shock/spring to use with the kit? There is no information on that... :)
Isee from the pictures, that AFCO, but what exactly?

As I mentioned awhile back, I am letting Mike (heavy breather) take the main control of JSM syty products. I am still very much in the background though, and I am hoping with the twin efforts we can provide a much better level of product and service than I have done solo in the past. Especially with the fact this isn't a full time job.

As far as the syclone kit goes, I have a truck available when we are ready. It takes significant time and resources to develop new products to a level beyond a single prototype. We have full intention to develop a syclone kit but it will depend on either a bunch of guys contacting Mike and committing to syclone kit for sure, and/or how the sales of the typhoon kit goes.

For shocks Mike and I both agree we are not the best to try to get into the shock business. The kit is designed with much more clearance than was ever possible for the front suspension, so many options will exist that work. Afco, QA1, Viking, Penske, etc. We will supply the shock length and recommend a spring rate for sure. Each person can then make a decision on where to purchase them, maybe even call someone like sportmachines who happens to be an Afco dealer. Your call.

Re: Typhoon Bolt in 4 Link Success

Is the length the same, as for OEM shock for leaf spring setup?

Yes, except if you want to lower your truck you may want to shorten by that amount. I believe we are running a 14" shock, but I need to fully confirm that and that information will be available with the kits.
