Typhoon Bolt in 4 Link Success

For those that went to shindig, they got to see first hand a truly bolt in 4 link for a typhoon on a running/driving truck (well until friday night it ran).

Hardman and myself are very happy with how it has turned out, we had hoped to get some good drag numbers at shindig but someone water injection was installed friday night on the truck without our approval.

With a little more testing, verifing everything is holding up as we wanted, and of course development of production fixtures we might be willing to reproduce a few sets.

So I am curious what people are expecting from a 4 link? For those that did see it, thoughts. I think Graham and Harmon are the only ones that got to go for a ride. I can say we stuffed 5 people in the truck friday for lunch and it rode rather well, much better than a lowered leaf spring truck.

How many people would be interested?

Target pricing is $1200 without shocks.

I saw it and was thoroughly impressed. The beefiness of the components and the quality of the kit is top notch. I didn't go for a ride, but seeing it going down the road and through the parking lot, you didn't hear any squeaks, binds, clanks, etc... Without prior knowledge of the kit, you would assume it was a stock-ish truck. No drama or broadcasting of what it was.

Lets see some pics!!!

I have a few on my phone but honestly they suck and are hard to get real good pictures of.

I will see now that truck is back on the lift if we can get some better pics this week. Keep in mind the one at shindig is prototype so flanges were not full on production CNC versions, but will be if there is interest.

Overall it involves 2 brackets that mount to rear housing where leaf spring was.
Bars extend to front leaf spring pocket.
A bracket bolts to rear cover providing 2 center support mounts for upper bars.
Upper bars extend out in a triangle to a custom made crossmember that replaces the factory one.
All 4 bars are fully adjustable without removing anything. Allowing for pinion angle, wheel base, and side/side adjustment of rear axle.
Exhaust work will be required to get past the bars in back, can't avoid that.
Grinding of 8 rivets is needed, after that it all bolts in.

For those that study 4 link geometry, the instant center is almost right on top of the neutral line. Launches are very non dramatic, truck just barely squats and goes. Seat of pants is MUCH improved over 2" blocks/stock springs.

As mentioned we hoped to get a good baseline at shindig, what appears to be a head gasket let go though preventing this. Truck is already on rack and coming apart with hopes to do that before tracks close.

This is very interesting to me as well.

What truck is the prototype currently on? Has this truck already had some track times to compare the new times to?

Can't wait to see some pics and more info.

Yes,

Anybody that was at nats last year, it is the silver typhoon we installed the Holley ECU on. Ran 11.97 @ nats in heat, 1.78ish 60ft on 12lbs of boost.

We have purposely not changed the tune, boost, etc in an effort to compare back to back 60ft times. With a head gasket issue friday that didn't happen as planned but we are working to get truck on track with the same tune before the end of the year.

As with anything I sell I won't sell anything until I have personally tested and confirmed its function. This effort is my 4th syty 4 link install, 3 of which are my design and I have had bolt in design in my head for several years.

I got a stupid question will it only work for TY or SY too thanx

Re: Typhoon Bolt in 4 Link Success

Ty has a different frame in the back. Some of the components would (lower mounts and bars) Upper stuff will be different due to gas tank location on a sy and frame is a bit different.

I did get a ride in the typhoon. I remember being told it was a 4-link but the thought never crossed my mind. We had 5 people stuffed in there and the ride quality never got a second thought

Re: Typhoon Bolt in 4 Link Success

I saw the build process, the geometry and the thought that has gone into it and there is nothing that matches it. I helped install it and also drove the truck the first time it left the lift.

This is a superb kit.

Stuff 5 people in a ty with 2" blocks and see how it rides. :)

We still have some tweaks we want to do with shocks, and possible spring rate. Although we are generally happy with spring rate right now.

I don't even like the way mine rides with 3 people.

Re: Typhoon Bolt in 4 Link Success

I would definitely be interested. But I can't do it if is going to be soon. I am still trying to scrape up enough cash for the Holley ECU. It depends on how soon this happens.

By time I verify and finish testing, along with fixtures for production made, be late this year, early next year.

I want some real firm #'s on 60ft reduction before I sell any of them. I am personally happy with how it feels but want to back it up.

I take it that there is no IC adjustment with the kit. It would be nice if you could somehow be able to make changes to the lower bar angle to accommodate harder or softer hits needed by different HP, drive line setups and weights... which will want changes to the IC. Will the triangulated setup allow some preload from one side to the other like a parallel 4 link, ladder bar or Caltrack setup does?

Re: Typhoon Bolt in 4 Link Success

I might be interested, not going to run the stock rear in the truck it would be going into, so depending on what axle I go with, doing something custom might be the way I go.
