I dont know, I put one on last night without the lock and they hit the top of the rockers. Unless there is something I dont know.

The Vortecs are plastic... a heat gun and a bit of a push might give you the necessary clearance.

If you're careful with how you push, it wouldn't be noticeable from the outside.

I used the spacers on daron's sy, as we wanted more the stock look. Another seal to leak but they do work.

Did you use 2 gaskets? I'm not sure why you couldn't glue the spacer down with RTV and then gasket on top.

Its just a blazer...
Re: Valve cover spacers

I have the Vortec valve covers over Crower roller rockers. The polylocks will touch the valve cover. I just took a small grinder and made clearance. I put a little oil on the top of the polylock and fit the valve cover. Wherever the lock touched, it left a little mark of oil and thats where I made the clearance. They fit with no leaks. Check out the pics at the link below.

I have spacers w/vortec covers on one motor and edelbrocks on the other. Both have vortec heads,With the spacers I use a small bead of rtv along the rubber strip that goes on the head, with the edelbrocks I reground the lower corners of the head so the v.c. would fit over it.Both engines have roller rockers neither hit or leak.

How much more clearance do you *think* that you need? The problem with a spacer from a fabrication standpoint is that you start off with a plate and when you're done, you have just a frame left. Everthing else is scrap unless you can use the material that will be cut out from the center for something...

The spacers were actually high on my to-do list after getting the CNC up and running, but slowly faded off due to exactly what was mentioned above. It sounds easy, but by the time you look at the material cost of a solid chunk of aluminum large enough to make it in one piece, plus the setup, run time, etc they aren't going to be $50 like everyone is hoping. You would end up making more on the scrap aluminum then the part itself :)

One of those parts that looks super easy and cheap, but not really the case. Sounds like someone needs to make a double thick gasket with metal divider like some of the felpro cork gaskets.

Just me thunkin' outside the box again...
Why not make them 2-piece, but with tabs/slots like a jigsaw puzzle that interlock together.
RTV that joint. If it fits tight enough, it shouldn't leak.

Would let you get 2-3 sets out of the same chunk of al.
