Vibration during acceleration

I took the truck out for a quick blast yesterday and there seems to be a vibration under acceleration which was not there this summer. THe truck is fine when cruising at a steady speed or under light acceleration but as soon as you get into the boost you feel the vibration. I'm thinking tranny or some other mount but would like some suggestions.

Bent rim or tires out of balance could have lost one of those stick on weights. Driving at a higher speed will magnify the issue.

I do not feel the vibration in the steering wheel at all and it is kit continuous. It only seems to be under acceleration.

Re: Vibration during acceleration

Is it possible that your tires are flat spotted? Has it been sitting for a while? Can you make it vibrate by doing a lite brake boost aka stand on the brakes and apply throttle gradually to see if it vibrates. X2 to the above suggestions as well, this could very well be a u-joint in either prop shaft or drive shaft, although it has never happened to me, but you would think that you may feel the vibration in the wheel if it is the prop shaft. Is the vibration rpm specific (more with higher RPMs, less with lower RPMs) or speed specific (more with higher speed, less with lower speed)? Unless it is a tranny mount that is only starting to go, typically they provide a good bang when you load the engine and then bang when you unload the engine, not usually a vibration.

The tires I am sure are good. I didn't think of the prop shaft but u joint was one of my suspects. It does not seem to be RPM specific though. I guess first I will remove he front propagate and see if it goes away. If the problem still persists I will change the u joints and go from there. Could this be a rear end problem? Carrier, pinion angle?

Re: Vibration during acceleration

U-joints on the drive shaft.

X2. Bad U-joints in the drive shaft will result in a vibration under acceleration, and the more the bearings erode, the worse the vibration will feel. Under deceleration, it is smooth as a stick of butter. The vibration should feel like it is affecting the whole truck. You won't feel it in the steering wheel although you can feel it if you wrap your hand around the shift lever.

It could also be a defective axle shaft. Cross your fingers for a bad drive shaft U-joint....that is an easy fix. All the best.

Re: Vibration during acceleration

Check your transfer case. Thats exactly what mine started to do before it turned into a "clunk" instead of a vibration. Could be mm as well
Low oil in it?

Code what?
Re: Vibration during acceleration

Why dont you inspect your rear drive shaft u joints before you waste your time starting to yank the front drive shaft. First place to check would be the front and rear drive shaft u-joints. Grab ahold of the driveshaft and turn back and forth in park and look for movement in the upper and lower u-joints. Same with the front shaft. Yes, pinion angle that is incorrect can destroy u-joints fast.

Re: Vibration during acceleration

could check your vibration dampener also. i just found my walking of the ring of the hub about 3/16 and the timing looks to be off more than 15 degrees. so it walked out and turned leaving the timing not to be true. just an idea. read it on the forum here. and decided to take a look. it was worth looking at as i found it right away. get a good flashlight and look down behind water pump. it will show if it was bad as mine. good luck

Re: Vibration during acceleration

if its only doing it under a hard accel it might be worth the time to open your hood, stand on the brakes and throttle it like a boost launch, watch your engine and see how much it twist, you may feel for the vibration then as well, to rule out a drivetrain issue. If it is your drivetrain you wont feel it, onacona none of its moving. if your mounts are...really bad you may be feeling the engine wrapping into something.

Re: Vibration during acceleration

hope you have drive shaft loops or you will find out the hard way what that vibration is.
