Did an A/C delete on Sat. Had the old R12 pulled (for free!) .7lbs left in the system, 2.5lbs is normal. So, easy choice to make in pulling it out. Pulled the hoses, evap canister, and condenser. Now I need to set about finding a non-AC heater box to swap mine with.

Also: Bought and wired in a new WBO2 sensor for my PLX. Getting the old narrowband out was a complete bitch. I thought things were going to break apart before I finally got it out!

Pics of your headlights, please.

i'll get some pics later.

What model did you pull the fan off of? P/N?

-P

The fan is off a Volvo S80. I bought them off craigslist. I have two actually. One is a nice solid shroud with PN: 9209814
The other has a couple extra tabs on it (one for mounting wires? and another for an overflow hose guide) and a circular flap in the shroud. PN: 8649522

Not exactly sure on years but the 8649522 comes up as a replacement for '99-'03 S80's. The 9209814 pulls up as a '99 S80 with turbo.

Re-dyed the steering wheel & shifter grip. Put last coat of 'ProtectaClear' on the wheels. Still can't get the hang of applying that stuff. Bumpy streaks. Have to do more 1500 grit sanding this weekend on them. Might Get them back on the truck by monday.

Might get released out of the aircast boot by the end of next week, which means I get to drive again:headbange
But then it's back to work on light duty:banghead:
Still got alot of strength to regain.

Replaced the Drivers side CV Axle. Now the Ty is ready to go to the Track. Also fixed a clunk noise I had for several months and I couldn't tell where it was coming from. The rear sway bar mount to the frame was loose.

Not today, but over the past month and a half, replaced the stock fuel pump with a Walbro, lowering blocks for the rear, new tonneau cover, replaced front prop shaft, installed kick panels with Polk Audio separates, PEP tubular a arms and tie rods and bilstein coil overs, and C5 front disc brakes.

I picked up a nice Checkmate tonneau cover a couple weeks back for $150, got around to installing it today. I put the old soft tonneau cover on the other Sy, so I could get rid of the ugly roll top cover it came with.

Attempted murder of wife's Ty:

I was chasing a problem with power falling off to a flat line at 3000 rpm. Long story short, I decided to check the entire system for boost leaks at intake or obstruction of intake from airbox to turbo:

Step 1 in committing the perfect murder.........Remove stock air box and crossover tube up to the orange elbow.

Step 2) take the Ty out for a spin around the block. You find it sounds really cool, so it must be running a lot better. Right?

Step 3) (note that in step 2 the air goes directly into the turbo without the benefit of no stinking air filter to impede the airflow). You say to yourself, you must prevent unwanted garbage from going into the hot, spinning turbo. With that thought in mind, you take 6 or 7 layers of cheesecloth and stretch it real

tight over the end of the orange elbow and clamp it into place using a metal clamp. One very neat, temporary (very temporary) air filter.

Step 4) Take it out on the freeway and spin it up reallllllllll good. Man, does it pull good for a change.....better than it has for the past couple of years. And, the turbo now has that high pitched whistle, rather than the wimpy woooooosh. The wastegate sounds really bad ass when you back off the throttle, too.

Step 5) So good the first time, let's do it again! Whistle, whine, assorted go fast noises..........then.....it all goes away. Power goes away, truck slows down, no bad ass sounds from wastegate, speed drops off radically. Something appears to be bad wrong. I pull over, shut it down, and pop the hood. A quick survey shows that my temporary air filter has disappered. Upon a closer examination (I peered down the orange elbow), I see what appears the edge of something peeking out from the mouth of the turbo. Not having my work glove handy, I stick my bare hand down in the hot, hot, hot orange elbow and retrieve..........my
temporary cheesecloth filter, or I should say, what was left of it, which was not much.

All I could think at this point was that I killed the turbo and maybe other important pieces of the motor. However, when I fired it up it sounded OK and there were no unusal vibrations, so...............might as well see if it's dead or not. Boost launch, go through the gears, all appropriate sounds being made, happy face, joy, joy..........IT LIVES!!

I put in a modified cold air kit, and the Ty is running better that it ever has (I think I sucked a duck or something into the stock airbox which restricted the air flow). However, that didn't keep my wife from banishing me from working on her Ty (forever), and relegating all my future repair activities to the Sy.

Cleaned up the engine bay and installed the grill and hood. A lot closer to completion, just need to figure out the noises that shouldn't be there.
