Re: What did you do to your SyTy today? (part 2)
Finished the install of the laundry list of parts. The dutchty lower intercooler was more of a challenge than I anticipated. None of the mods to the OE brackets worked for me. I got frustrated after a couple hours and fit it together with pop rivets so I could mod it to work for me. I ended up welding it back together. Now don't think that I left it as 1 piece. Once I got it all aligned and fit how it needed to be I cut the bottom tray back off and welded 2 pieces of 1" angle on the upper and lower pieces to make for a bolt flanges. Not thinking even this fully through when I went to bolt the assembly into the truck, my new flange wouldn't fully clear the driver side sway bar bracket, so I cut off 1/2 of that side. and it fit great after that. So, all in all Here is the list: dutchty lower IC, ZQ8 steering box, Astro van steering shaft, heat wrapped crossover pipe, 1996 chevy 2500 truck starter, and hopefully fixed the oil leak on the turbo oil line. Oh and what started it all, installed the new front propshaft from D&R. Went in so slick it scared me.
GAWD I hate the smell of antifreeze!
UPDATE: Took it off the jackstands for a drive around town. HOLY CRAP the steering is WAY nice now. I never realized how loose it was before. The steering wheel is about 1-2 teeth off to the passenger side though. No big deal. I didn't clearance the transmission shifter cable bracket for the driveshaft, and it rubs a little under anything other than normal acceleration. All easy stuff to fix though. Under hood temps are WAY lower with the crossover pipe wrap as well. I measured temps at the upper IC too and that was about 10 degrees lower than before.
