what to do for wrist pin bushings wear?

giving the engine a clean bill of health for the potential sale of the truck, i took it down to the local machine shop for an inspection.

they said that the wrist pin bushings were wearing bad, that they were bad enough to cause audible noise eventually.

the first time i took them the engine it was making a noise, and they replaced the wrist pin bushings then too.

what is up with the wrist pin bushings? what can i do to get them to last? brand?

please advise... no signs of detonation otherwise.

an aside question is how loose do you run your pistons in the holes? said mine are on the loose side.

thanks

Re: what to do for wrist pin bushings wear?

Are you running the popular SRP forged pistons with Spiro-locks?

Opening up the rod bearing clearance (.002 max), or rod side-clearance a tad might also help by increasing oil throw-off from the crank. Which is what oils the pin bore.

Some ideas......

Re: what to do for wrist pin bushings wear?

very interesting. that guy would be the first to blame my wrist pin bushing problems on 15w mineral oil at cold start up

it is interesting that the tapping noise as it developed went away after the engine warmed up.. when this guy would say it went away because the oil warmed up.

ill have to talk about it with the builder.

now im freaked out with the same 15-40 in my trans am.

interesting. so is this guy telling the truth and myself and others are wrong all along for stepping up the weight for added protection?

Re: what to do for wrist pin bushings wear?

just talked to my cars engine builder

he said that eagle rod bushings are crap and on any high power application he removes them and fits up carillo or oliver bushings.

he said they are imported and junk.
