Wheel Bearing?

My truck started making a whistling noise while driving, I thought it was possibly the wheel spacers I added to make my new rims fit, but it got louder. Decided to put on the lift and left the truck in drive, low and behold all tires except one was spinning, tried to help spin it, and it moved but was difficult. Pretty sure this means its my wheel bearing, but wanted to get some insight before I tear into it. Also wondering if anyone knows of a thread that goes through replacing the wheel bearing?

Re: Wheel Bearing?

Most likely a stuck caliper or collapsed hose. Worn wheel/hub bearings will "growl" when they go bad, getting louder with speed.

Re: Wheel Bearing?

To check your hubs out, grab the wheel with one hand on the outer bottom of the tire and the other hand on the top of the tire and push and lift up and down and back and fourth so to speak. If the wheel moves, your hubs are bad. This is NOT the same method as a shake down.

Re: Wheel Bearing?

A lot of the responses appear to assume it's a front wheel.

Are we supposed to assume that this is a rear wheel since you said you needed a spacer for your wheels?

Sorry, my bad, it is the front passenger wheel. The noise at times goes away when I turn to the left, but I cant turn left forever..

Sure you can, Dale Earnhardt Jr. But are you sure it's the passenger side? If I had a bearing noise in the front end, and it stopped when I turned left... I would assume it was the driver's side that was bad?

Re: Wheel Bearing?

Two things for thinking that its the left side; first I had a friend ride in the back of the truck and that is where he said he heard it from, and second was when i put it on the lift in gear I could hear it on that tire when I helped spin it. I plan on getting it back in the air after finals. I hate school ha

Hey, did you ever figure this out becaues i have the same thing. A thread i found said that it might be a cotter pin swealing underneath the center cap of the spindle. I haven't checked mine yet, but was just wondering what you found. Thanks

Re: Wheel Bearing?

Which axle? Mine make noise when I turn it too , I did my wheel bearings last year , just don't have a hoist to check out the cv axle!

Mine was the passenger side. The boots are like 20 bucks, but you can get a new half shaft (front axle) from the dealer for 75. That's the route I went, and it wasn't hard at all

Just turn the wheel all the way to lock and look under there for grease, especially inside the wheel. If yours is torn, you will see grease everywhere!

Re: Wheel Bearing?

Mine are not torn , the sob just makes noise when going left to right when driving! The dealer sells cv axles for 75 new? I figured they would be double at the dealer!

Re: Wheel Bearing?

Hey guys,

Mine seemed to have all the same noises that most of you are talking about and mine ended up being the U-Joint on the half-shaft.

I would definitely check that out if I were you because I was starting to go crazy too trying to figure it out. So glad that mine drives quietly now haha. Good luck guys.
