Re: X-cab Sy

Today prepped & shot the back of the cladding with rubberized undercoating to hide the massive amounts of blue epoxy.

I had to epoxy all my tabs when I took mine off too. They are soooo brittle. Nice job, can't wait to see the finished truck!

Re: X-cab Sy

Could you find out what kinda epoxy your painter used be nice to know. Thanks

Update:
Still waiting on the epoxy. Should have it on Wednesday, maybe.
In the mean time , the painter tightened up the front bumper spacing.
IMG_1720-1.jpg

Is this too tight? About 3/16+. I know the bumper is off of the frame, and the front arch is on the body. maybe too close for potholes? Or the body doesn't move that much? He is going to trim the top of the bumper cover to equally space it to the grill across the front. I do like the snug look.
Thoughts?

Re: X-cab Sy

Just got back from the painter's...So to answer questions.
Bought the truck new june '90. Late '91, when the old cladding kit went on, a few door dings were fixed and the whole truck was repainted to factory bright red WA7475 with Sherwin Williams along with the cladding to match. I've looked at color swatches for that red...about 8 different shades.
The epoxy is from Europe, distributed through Florida to independants.
It's called International Epoxies & Sealers (IES) internationalepoxies.com
Intermix-5 (five minute set time) #8416. Self mix tube. Uses dual plunger gun.
We waited 3+ weeks the first time we ordered because the local distributer was waiting on Florida, but now usually a week out. You could check their website for local distributors perhaps.

Thanks for all the compliments.
Can't wait til spring.

Chip, is the Teal SoGT going to see the same level of attention when its turn comes around? Those bullet holes add some fun character to it.

Could find someone to airbrush bullet holes. :rotf:
Yea, when I start a project, I try to do it right. I think the SoGT is going to be a bit easier. Motor work, metal body work and a little cladding work...not ALOT of cladding work.

Just got an e-mail from the painter......

He's asking for the rivet gun, grille letters/side markers and decals.

Looks like I get her back this weekend.

More pics to come when decals on, and yes... I need to straighten the exhaust tips.

That looks great.

One question though. From the factory, they had gray colored tape around the cladding edges so the body color wouldn't show through from the gaps in the cladding. Do you plan on doing this? Think is might clean it up a little bit. Still a work of art.

From what we discussed on the forum, the early 92's didn't have the tape. About mid production you can see the tape show up. Kinda didn't even think of that until you just mentioned it. Oh well, I'm still in a little bit of shock since this has been in the works for almost two years. Didn't expect to see them hanging on the truck painted til this next weekend.
