Re: Z51 front and possibly rear install info....

So trim the corners of the axle flange, drill a new hole and turn down the hub about a 1/4" and all is well?

I hope this works.....I just placed an order with gmpartsdirect for

LS1 BACKING PLATES #10444625, 10444626
Rear Calipers #88895130, 88895131
Z51 Rear brackets x2 #88964167
Z51 rotor x2 #89060329

Edit:
Added a Wilwood LS1 stainless steel rear brake line kit # 220-6856

Re: Z51 front and possibly rear install info....

 I got the new rear brake parts in today and took some cell phone photos

Just from piecing things together it looks like getting the z51 set-up to work with the emergency brake will require some work..

The dust shield on the new backing plates hits the Z51 rear brackets also the brackets over hang the brake lining and hit it before the holes in the bracket line up with the bolt holes in the backing plate.

It looks like I can notch the dust shield and bracket to allow it to bolt up and clear the emergency brake lining and I need to figure out what bolts I need, how many and of what size.
none of the parts I ordered came with bolts of any kind

I hope to have the time this weekend to start to work on this while I wait on my shocks to return from RPM.

tips, suggestions..... all appreciated

i'm still interested in making the caliper brackets for these. I'm willing to help out if those brackets aren't gonna fit for you

Yep, I stripped the backing plates down removing everything. So no E-brake on mine.

The E-brake did not sit deep enough into the rotor to make any use of it. I believe this is due to the different rotor design between the LS1 on the vette.

About how much $$$ do you guys have in these "kits" for front and rear brakes??

I want to do mine. But want to know a round about price for everything.

the Stoptech C5 front setup was around $2400 + the CBR C5 conversion kit

so far for the rear using all new parts...

$600 shipped for the backing plates, brackets, rotors and calipers.
+ the rear brake lines + hardware + pads + wheels + tires

:D

It does look like it will be close getting the e-brake to work if I try bolting the caliper up the way you have it..
But, It does look like the z51 set-up will bolt up and work just like your zo6 setup did as long as you ditch the e-brake.

Sadly, I need the e-brake to maintain being "street legal" for certain race classes.
A car registered in Texas is not street legal without a working e-brake.

Some brackets or adapters would be nice.

Do you think you could make something that would allow the use of the e-brake and what do you need in order to find out?

Re: Z51 front and possibly rear install info....

allwheeldriven, did you get rear "anti-rattle" clips and, if so, is there a part number available? i've been told they come with the rear pads. can you confirm this?

Re: Z51 front and possibly rear install info....

I did hear the same thing about the clips but, my rear pads havn't come in yet :(
I ordered a set of EBC yellowstuff pads from England they should arrive 6/6/07.

Ashman, for your set-up are you going to attempt to keep a working E-Brake?

I started playing around with the parts a little more today.
I did a mock up and to me it looks like a custom caliper bracket will be required to keep the E-brake.

Without an Ebrake it looks like a simple enough install tho :rotf:

Right now it looks like options are.....

1. Make an adapter for the LS1 backing plate and Z51 caliper bracket.
2. Ditch the E-brake all together..... a la 4C-FED
3. Ditch the LS1/Z51 E-brake and buy a seperate e-brake caliper and install it.
4. Buy LS1 calipers and rotors then do the standard conversion everyone else does.

Making bracket adapaters is certainly possible and may not even be that tough.
Right now it looks like I can hack up a Z51 bracket and machine an adapter plate to bolt the Z51 brackets to the backing plates in the same location as the LS1 caliper but lengthen it and offset it to allow for the correct location of the Z51 calipers on the Z51 rotors.

Re: Z51 front and possibly rear install info....

i'm going to make every attempt to install the Z51 rears....with or without the e-brake. i, almost, never use my e-brake but, it would be nice to keep it.

right now, i really need to get these "anti-rattle" clips. anyone know of a source. Fred Beans is telling me that they come with the pads (i need someone to confirm this) and, if that's the case i'll happily order a set. I check locally first.

Re: Z51 front and possibly rear install info....

I'm pretty sure that the anti-rattle clips are only available 2 ways:

1.) GM Pad sets come with them (AC Delco stuff, like the ZO6 pad sets)
2.) Loaded calipers should come with them (I'd verify that with whomever you buy from).

I haven't seen a part number (I've looked) for the anti-rattle clips by themselves.
Aftermarket pads don't come with the anti-rattle clips (the bastards!)

And I haven't seen them available from parts stores (at least not the usual chains). If somebody knows of them being available, please post up.

I haven't been keeping to up to date on this discussion, what year vette are these z51 parts off? Are they '06 z06 parts?
Also not completely sure but I usually use Monroe brake pads for all my customers and myself and 99% of the time they come with all the clips. I know for the 2000 vette brakes that they come with the pads 'cause thats what we got for my dads ty.

Z51 is a handling package for the C6, provides bigger front (13.4") and rear rotors with the stock calipers (on different pad abutment brackets to put the calipers in the correct location).

The C6 ZO6 utilizes silly sized brakes. 14" fronts with 6 piston calipers (which uses 6 pads per caliper). Rears are big too (don't remember the size) with 4 piston calipers (and 4 more pads per caliper). Wouldn't be too bad if the pad sets were less than $500.

Oh, and the 14" rotors for the front weigh like 27 lbs. (all of which is rotational weight and most of it is getting to be a fair distance from the spindle, meaning really big flywheel effect).

EDIT: I just re-read this post and discovered I made a posting error. Thought one thing and typed another. From what I've seen, the C6 ZO6 rotors DO weigh 27lbs (as opposed to what I stated earlier).
