Re: Syclone Gut Swap

So I went to install ES body bushings and found out that I have the wrong kit:rant: So we ended up installing the rear leaf spring frame bushings and shackles, new rear bump stops, solid motor mount frame pads, and other various crap.

Here are the pics of the freshly coated frame and all thats not on it:D. I also painted the torsion bar crossmember and frame brace, so those are all ready to go. I will install the rear end this weekend and possibly the body bushings if the correct ones get here.

Enjoy:tup:

Re: Syclone Gut Swap

Paul, what PN did you get for the body mounts? You know you have to remove the metal insert on the body mounts & re-use it.
And do you have the PN for the rear axle bump stops handy?

Thanks,
Rick

Paul, How were the ES body bushings the wrong ones if you don't mind my asking? Big truck?

Re: Syclone Gut Swap

My brain is not currently functioning. Did you cut the parts off the frame where the stock rear bump stops attach and then bolt those stops on to the frame? I cant visualize under my truck.

Re: Syclone Gut Swap

Rick/Lloyd,

My brother ordered the bushings for me over a year ago. He called Summit and said it was for a Syclone. Stupid summit has the blazer/typhoon part number listed under the syclone so I got the SUV kit (3-4132) and not the single cab truck kit (3-4130).

So the correct kit is on order.

The rear bump stops that I am running are part # 9-9109 and the only reason I can is that one of the previous owners removed the dropped down frame section that held the oem one.

I have no idea why, but they also cut out the lip on all four wheel cladding pieces. Maybe they once had the truck slammed and got rid of the lip and bump stop bracket to give it more clearance?? Or the thing launced so hard they had to make some extra room for things to move around :rotf: One will never know.

See ya,

Re: Syclone Gut Swap

So my pops and I spent about five hours today installing all of the rear suspension:D

We installed the diff, belltech springs, belltech sway bar, monomax shocks, etc.

The Davey Z (version 2) custom blocks worked well and I think we have the wheels almost perfectly centered in the wheel opening. They now have a .5" rear offset hole to get the perfect look.

We still have to spray the battle bar tubes and front mounts to finish up the rear portion. The front and rear brake calipers and brackets are going off to the anodizer/plater this week.

Dave P also dropped by to check on the work and show off his super clean 1985 Corvette  Dave P and I also poured one bank of my motor last night with some Hard Blok. We will do the last side tomorrow and then its back off to the machine shop to get finished up.

Next weekend will be fuel system and body bushing time. We are going to spray my 13 gallon tank gloss black, install the RPM double pumper fuel pump setup, and maybe get it installed in the truck. We will also finally get the correct body bushings installed and allign the cab and bed so it sits right on the frame.

Well enough typing, here's the good stuff.

Re: Syclone Gut Swap

where can I get a set of those 1" offset wedges??

Truck is coming along beautiful by the way! I would love to do that extensive of a build on my TY but I did that already with my El Camino and I could't possibly afford to build another project too clean to drive! Keep up the great work!

Re: Syclone Gut Swap

I don't think you can get a set of those wedges, unless you come on out and put some hours into the build of this truck. They were fabricated in-house by the 'team' that is building this thing.

The attention-to-detail, and the overall theme of this build is outstanding. It's going to be a display of real pride-of-ownership.

I'm proud to be part of it, in my small way.
Dave

You got that right! Paul doesn't mess around as far as attention to detail goes. It will probably be one of the cleanest Syclones on the road. I am also proud to have had a hand in the build and can't wait for it to be finished so we can go cruise around in it.

Thanks bro. I am going to talk to my pops and his buddy Mike to see if we may be able to do a run of these. Stay tuned...

Re: Syclone Gut Swap

Well it has been a few weeks (sent on the 17th of May) since I sent the machine shop invoice to John @ Xplicit Racing. I sent it via snail mail, e-mail, and PM. He e-mailed me back the day after I sent it to him and told me that we would finally get this done with. Well I haven't heard a single word since and have called a few different times. The machine shop will be done with the motor soon and I need to be able to pay him.

So just incase, I have started to sell off my parts collection to raise some "extra" money:( If anyone needs any NOS or used stuff check out the for sale page.

I cant emphasize how much I just want to beat the crap out of this truck and haul some ass. The sad thing is, as of now I can only dream about how quick she will be. I have been having some crazy dreams recently and so far I have anhiliated everything I have come up against:rotf:

Man my truck is quick in my dreams.

Anyways its time to wake up now...

Re: Syclone Gut Swap

Soon enough dude. It should be fine considering how long it is taking. Hopefully that means issues will be minimal when it's time to start driving it.
