Those are also a concern that I have.

However, from talking with the adjuster just a bit ago, it sounds as if he doesn't want to even consider totaling it. From some of the comments that he made, I am curious as to find out what they have total value of the truck at. Guess I could just come straight out and ask him, eh?

It is normally based off of NADA values. I would guess somewhere in the $14-16,000 range and for some reason am thinking they total one out if it exceeds 80% of the replacement value :dunno:

unfortunatly its not up to just the adjuster. also at this point the adjuster has no idea what if anything is wrong driveline wise let alone what it will cost. i know what happened to your truck sucks and you want to get it back together asap but i would hate to see you get screwed in the process, not sayin you are but it is a possibilty at this point. best of luck with this.

We'll have to see once I can get this motor/trans diagnosed and see where we go from there.
I know that my personal insurance company gave it an initial insured value of $12,500 back when I bought it and have that paperwork to confirm it.
Even not taking sales tax and licensing fees into effect, 80% would put us @ about $10,000. If they want to total it, I'd probably be willing to counter them settling for $9,999.99 and keeping the truck w/o a total loss.

One thing I did notice too, and need to get a picture of. In the passenger side door jamb, there are several scratches and nicks on both the metal and the cladding from the glass that was broken. Not noticeable unless you open the door. Didn't notice it when there was glass all over the place, but hey, might as well try and claim and collect every possible penny, eh?

Try to get it on a lift and get another one next to it so the adjuster can see and compair the 2 for measurements and bent underside components (frame, crossmember, ect). Get as much paperwork as you can to prove everything (new motor, trans). Also show them the tires since you said it looks like they did lots of brake torques, and let them know the transfer case might be damaged since it AWD and they were beating on it like it wasn't.
Remember the first offer is just that, an offer. You can and should counter, to try to get as much as possible if they total it.
If they fix it, ask them how much time do you get if something else brakes or is found damaged that was part of this adveture.
Good luck

make sure you have reciepts for anything you rebuilt, other wise they will value the damaged items as used IE if the truck has 100k they will value the transfer case as a 100k used unit (100-200 bucks) unless you can prove it was otherwise, same with tires or any other wear or rebuildable item,

Yeah. I obviously have all receipts for everything that I have done to the truck. The two biggies, the transmission and transfer case...well, the transmission was rebuilt about a year before I got it. Trying to contact the previous owner to see if he still has the receipts for it. The transfer case, I don't know about, so I would pretty much be forced to on that particular item, go with a lesser value. And you almost hit the nail on the head, 103k.

Any idea (or residue) on if they checked for prints or not?

i have never seen nor heard of any police department checking for finger prints on a vehicle for a simple auto theft case. that only happens on television.

Negative. Wouldn't have been a bad idea though. But too late now. When my "counter-estimate" goes back, I'll make sure to mention that I didn't request one. :)

Nope. They didn't do a damn thing.
I got it out of impound on the 9/16. On 9/17 I shot an email to the "detective" (Yes, using that term very lightly here) asking if he was planning on printing it. His response via email was he would do it "First thing on Wednesday (9/21)". Of course, Wednesday rolled around, nothing. Thursday he sent an email stating it would be done that day. Of course, nothing. The following Monday (9/26) I shot him a nice email. Of course, then he immediately calls me and emails me asking me to call him ASAP. Guessing he read the part of the email where I told him I will be emailing his superiors and the council members I know about my recent experiences with the auto theft department and NOW all of a sudden there is a sense of urgency.

It's a moot point now. I informed him in the email that I am not waiting any longer on him and that the thieves pretty much got a freebie on this one. Then pointed out that several GM High Performance Vehicles have been stolen in and around Middle Tennessee in the last month or so, and made sure to mention that with them attempting to remove the induction system, that there was a chance that all of this would be related.

At this point, it's a lost cause to attempt for them to do any investigation (I don't say "additional", because they obviously didn't do ANY investigation). I just now need to make sure that the superiors are aware and hopefully anyone in Davidson County in the future that has their vehicle stolen and recovered are treated and processed the way they SHOULD be from the METRO PD.

Then there is no need for METRO PD to have an auto theft division. :rotf: Not trying to be a smartass, but that's the point I am making in the email that's being sent to the superiors and government reps.

If stolen vehicles are just going to be treated as "property crimes" that no one is going to follow up on or investigate at all, I am sure the government could save tens of thousands a year by cutting them out or they could be re-assigned to other areas like, oh, you know, the hookers who openly walk up and down Murfreesboro Road in front of the dealership every day.

Oh, and he claimed it was INITIALLY "overlooked" because it was listed as "Found Property".

You would think the "AT" written on the back would mean "AUTO THEFT".

But hey, maybe it just meant "Automatic Transmission".

We have one that just recently "started". Doesn't look 1/2 bad either. Maybe it's a cop. I may have to "take one for the team" and find out. ;)

If you don't have a receipt for something on the truck or done to it, get an estimate to duplicate it or replace it with new comparable equipment. When my stereo eqp was stolen out of my '89 Jimmy, ($5000 worth) I didnt have all of mine either, I got estimates to redo as is was, and with eqp that was close (since what I had was out of production) and they were ok with that. :2cents:
