Re: ALERT: 92 GMC Typhoon #1377 Stolen - nashville tn
nice to see the insurance company didn't bone you. How would you rate your insurance company after this experience?
I don't have any complaints really.
Keep in mind, they are actually getting reimbursed from the shop's insurance company once this is all said and done, so that may have had a play on how they handled it. And of course I have other cars and the house insurance all with the same carrier.
From the first time I spoke with the adjuster, I made sure that I came across firm that this wasn't just a "92 Blazer" and made sure to have as much information as possible that I sent to him voluntarily rather than him asking for it. I wanted to him to know that I wasn't going to quickly settle just to get a grand or two. The main area I thought we were going to run into trouble on was the condition of the engine and what insurance was going to attempt to do with it. Drivetrains aren't something that are the "norm" for an insurance company to address during claims, so was expecting to have a fight on my hands of getting the motor work covered. I immediately sent him copies of all invoices for work done and parts done on the motor along with a picture of the odometer after recovery.
Had we of wound up in total loss territory though, I don't know that the feelings would have been the same. The one time that he brought it up, he attempted to put ACV @ $10,500. However, the policy initially had it insured for $12,500. So if we would have gotten to the "It's going to be totaled" point, we would have been doing some fighting.
On a side note, I have an employee here who is inexperienced with insurance. He has a 2001 2Dr Blazer. He has full coverage and all. He was hit by someone in the parking lot at his apartment complex. Being young and dumb (and not listening to what we were telling him), he was a victim of the "quick settle" with insurance. He didn't really have the balls to question anything insurance was telling him, and was just "okay, okay, okay".
And on a somewhat related side note, one of the Sy's that was stolen recently was short changed by the insurance company for total loss pricing. However, I know that owner was "stuck" because it was their only form of transportation, so I can understand wanting to settle as quickly as possible. However, if I would have been in that situation, I probably would have borrowed a vehicle or bought a clunker while fighting with insurance, because from the sounds of it, it was shorted a few thousand, not a few hundred.
