Best Free Mod I've Made and only wish I'd done it sooner

Well, I've had my Ty a few years now and always said to myself that I'd get around to hot wiring the CAC Intercooler pump one day. Well I have and all I can say is that it makes a hell of a difference!. No more 'slowing down' when your motoring through the gears from a standing start. It just keeps on pulling. I really wish I had done this when I first bought it.
For those that haven't or have always thought about it, but never got around to it. DO IT!
10 minutes for the quick way is all it takes! A 'Scotchlok connector and a small length of wire with a round crimp to a good ground. Theres one on the firewall near the wiper motor. Just connect the yellow relay wire to ground. You can go the more professional route of soldering if you want to. I did the scotchlok version to try it, its staying on thats for sure, unless I decide to do a 'better' job with a soldering iron. Heres a link from SyTy Archives.com.

Here is another cheap mod. If you have a stock waste gate, loosen the two bolts holding the actuator in place, slide 2 nickles between the bracket and the turbo, tighten the bolts. A friend of mine did that and went from 13.00 to 12.79 in the qtr.

That's not a FREE mod, it will cost you .10 cents.... It would be cheaper to adjust the wastegate rod and make it shorter :)

I didn't say it was free, duh. Plus, the rod had already been adjusted to it's limits.

Yeah, thought about that too! and the meth inj kit in the box to make it even 'cooler'.
I suppose I could use the Bosch pump I bought for a vette some years ago from Tpis but never fitted. That could be counted as free too, as I already have it. I could really do with knowing whats actually in there now, who knows, it might be upgraded already, but unfortunately I didnt get any history with it. It did have an egt sensor and some bracket on the dash that had something fitted in the past so somethings have been messed with in its past. I know, I really need to check my fuel pressure and see what it does on a 'run'. I dont really fancy dropping the tank down on my own anytime soon though. Anyone ever cut a hole in the 'trunk' to change out the fuel pump? Can it even be done that way and a 'decent' panel made to fit the hole afterwards? Most cars fuel pumps come out that way and I dont think my Ty will ever be a classed as a 'show car' to worry about the 'mod'.

the Feulpump isn't that bad with 2 people and a lift on a Typhoon. just alot of nasty words to get the fittings back on. you could make it easy and just get an aftermarket hose that is longer.

a walbro you can hear over a stock pump, it has a higher noise, and sounds more like a WEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. instead of a moaaaaaaaaaaaaaa:rotf:

Mine sounds pretty quiet. A little moaaaa when ignition first on and then I dont really hear it at all after that. No, it will probably be just me dropping the tank if I ever do it and I cant see the wife getting dirty under there with me!. Doing the 4+3 clutch on the vette with her put her off doing anything else ever again I think. I did have her underneath with me pushing from behind, I thought she would be used to that, but she said she didnt care to do that again. Seems like a standard phrase she come out with every now and then. Anyway, the longer hose sounds like a good prompt. What is it 8mm (5/16") normal Fuel Injection hose? I think I have some somewhere. whats the OE grade SAEJ30R8/9 ? What length do you suggest to have in? By the way, anyone else using a Bosch 255lph in tank pump? I guess its not quite as simple to fit as a Walbro or an Aeromotive. Looks the part though.

Toss a scoop on the lower heat exchanger it'll help direct air to it for better cooling

Just go cut out the "cover panel" from a donor Blazer/Jimmy and make it an inch or two wider on each side so you can secure it over the access hole. Maybe install it with Zeus fasteners or something. Something that will make it very easy to access.

If you don't want to tap or cut your factory wiring, every aftermarket chip will turn on the IC pump earlier.

By doing this your are changing the base boost higher, if the ECM is still able 'control' the wastegate it should have the same average peak boost. I have heard some people adding a spring as well. I tried the sprjng with my ultimate chip but my Syclone overboosted on downshifts (it felt quicker off idle) If the adjustment is too high the ECM will not be able to control the boost and it will essentially overboost. The ideal way to control this would be using code59 through tuning.

I forgot to add, I suggest only doing this temporarily, and not a permanent change, ie when getting ready to race some one and you want a boost increase, 100 octane unleaded race gas also recommended.

Re: Best Free Mod I've Made and only wish I'd done it sooner

I had two observations that kept me from doing it: One, there is a body reinforcement under the floor that goes right over the sender. This would have to be severed, thus weakening the load floor, and complicating the patch-panel method. Two, I didn't want to cut a 'flap' in the carpet. To pull up the carpet to access the hole is another PITA that begins by removing the side panels. Three: to cut the hole without damaging the lines or sender, the tank should be down anyway.
Cheers

Thanks Dave, those are good enough reasons not to.
Like I mentioned, I have a Bosch pump still sat in the box doing nothing.

Anyone any experience with these in a Ty? I got it for a C4 vette, but I decided I'd fit a Walbro as I thought it was overkill for a slightly modded tpi. Thats still in the box too - so's the vette for that matter.

I wouldn't put it in a Typhoon unless you know the actually output. The higher the fuel pressure the less output fuel pump puts out. So if your base fuel pressure is at 45psi, at 20 psi of boost the fuel pressure is 65psi. IIRC A walbro would in theory support 800 hp at 40psi, but its down to 600hp at 60psi. If that 400-550hp rating is at 45 psi, its going to be way down at 65 psi.

I would get a 255LPH walbro or one of the Denso Supra fuel pumps.

If I remember, I think I did confirm the Bosch output as being 255lph when I put in its part number into the Bosch website. I know the Walbro is the favorite on here and I may possibly be looking for trouble if I deviated from that, but discussing options is always good. I know Mike Hood does these and also the Aeromotive 360lph for a few more $$ but I think thats overkill for anything in my future.
