No full power runs yet, still sorting out a few things

like cleaning up the mess from power steering pump telling us it doesnt like reving at high rpms.

getting a night when the street cars havent removed the track prep

and sorting out the tranny governor with shift points that are 1000 rpm lower than we want so we can turn the motor on. :)

That crazy dance/hop thing you've got has to be killing your ET... It looks like an easy 8-second pass without all that nonsense...

What might fix that problem? More weight in the rear? More rear-end torque bias? Different rear shocks? Etc...?

I'm interested to see how things transpire when you get the motor back in...

Any word yet on what happened?

YES! the truck detonated for some unknown reason and bent 4 rods! lucky for us it didnt spit out any parts! their was also a small place on the crank that was damaged, but we're having it machined to see if it can still be used. the timimng could have been off also which spells trouble combined with detonation. BUT everything else was fine. i dont know how we got off so lucky with 4 rods going bad but we did. several of the bearings went bad also and that is what caused the the motor to seize up. but other than that everything was fine.

it definately is. the problem we're having is transfering enough weight to the back tires, BUT still having enough on the front so the truck doesnt run wild off the line. if the front tires toe out the truck is extremely hard to handle. SO ....we have to find the fine line between the 2 in order to get the launch right. we just put on new traction bars so that was part of it hopping so bad the last couple of runs, we havnt gotten em set exactly right.

LOL, try living in South Florida. We get two weeks a year of "not hot and sticky" ;)

Lets see, 4 bent rods, seized bearing(s), some kinda nick on the crank. Are you having the crank magnafluxed? (sp). Last time I seized a bearing (rear main, not a 4.3) I had to have a line bore as well. Good luck I'm sure you'll get it right. Still amazingly quick.

Great job guy's you will be in the 8's in no time. Hang in there!

Re: DOC HOOVER in Steele, MO 3/5/06

:shocked!: Holy smokes! That made the hair on the back of my neck stand up! Did you get a scolding on that run by any track officials? If that run were made at the Woodburn Dragstrip here in OR, you probably would have gotten the 3rd degree about keeping it under control or shutting it down when it got squirrely. (Woodburn isn't very sympathetic). Personally, I thought it was a fantastic run! JUST STAY SAFE.

BTW, I'm amazed it nearly hits the 8's with a leaf spring rear. Do you think you would already be in the 8's if you had a 4-link/coil/airbag setup? Cause that thing bounces pretty good on launch. Or are you looking to keep the suspension stock configuation?

I watched it again (SWEET!!!) and noticed the front tire wobbling back and forth on the launch. Watch the front tire really close for the first ~30' and you'll see that the tie rods have to be hating life.

What traction bars did you guys go with?

Man i cant remember? i wanna say Flex a form(sp)? i should know that but the dang truck has been on jack stand 6 out of the last 7 months, it seems, and dad has changed some things since last summer. so...... dont quote me on that...

maybe??? i hope we get a chance..... BUT some of our fastest times have come when its 90+ outside at memphis and the lovely TN humidity. so i dont know how much that will hinder us? can say that it cant hurt though to be 15 or so degrees cooler. guess our intercooler does its job

Don W. said:

dont think so, the crank was ok but the block WAS NOT. unfortunately we have to order a new block bc it was damaged too bad.... so maybe now 6 new pistons, even thought the ones we have dont have 10 runs on em. such is life in drag racing.....

no nobody said anything to us, prooly bc we have been to memphis many times in the past. and SAFE is always in the back of my head. i always let out if i feel the truck is gettin too wild. to be honest i know ZERO, and i mean ZERO, about suspension stuff.... i mean i know whats what but how they all work and advantages and whatnot, im ignorant as they get. so to answer ur question, I DONT KNOW? :rotf: :rotf:

BUT i do know that we'll get her back together and give her another shot here sometime soon. we'll get through the this rough time and i feel pretty good that she'll be flyin again soon!

Still a couple of weeks before a quarter mile track opens... maybee he will be able to test at "Mecka raceway" in malmö down south in sweden in a 2 weeks period,, but thats only a 1/8 mile track, should get a grip on the results on every effort this winther thoug...

Sorry about the wrecked block Matt those "Pings" get hard on an engine.

That's awesome to hear :) Any idea how the tech requirements compare to NHRA?

I kinda doubt the detonation bent the rods but perhaps the force lifted the heads.

then water filled the cylinders

water wont compress so the rods bend andthe cylinder walls crack under pressure.

hence the need for another block.

Re: DOC HOOVER in Steele, MO 3/5/06

The swedish rulebook is at the most just a copy of the NHRA rules.. SOme minor adjustments in the personal equipment because we have the FIA rules to..

So we can have either the FIA or the SFI clouthing when racing and some of the cars listed for racing here do not have any company doing the safety stuff for them (safety loops and so on) then we have some extra rules for those ocations.

Re: DOC HOOVER in Steele, MO 3/5/06

matt, you guys thought about upgrading that intercooler yet? also, since you run on pure c16, no reason to keep the compression under 10:1. Thats definately one huge regret i have on my motor, cause i have seen what a difference it makes with higher compression. i would love to see you guys build a motor with some good heads, but right now it seems like the motor is already making enough power to stay ahead of Ed.. lol <sorry ed, just had too :) >

whats up with callahan? maybe this year?

i think they are running pontiac 449s.. raised runner 23 deg. Thinking maybe they could benefit from the extra 40cfm potential with the 359 castings. anyways, get to the track ed!
