I don't care what they are made of just make sure they look like the originals. I need to replace a couple pieces not the whole set.
Thanks for considering this and I hope you choose to pursue this endeavor.

I'm not sure about the ABS route.. sink marks on the visible areas of the cladding may be a problem, especially if you were going to try and make the tabs stronger... maybe a fiber-filled norel, or something like that - with lots of UV stabilizer. It's been a long time since my plastic engineering days - there are probably much better material choices out there these days. I can't imagine what the mold costs would be  It would be cool to see some of those gap issues solved.

3 votes for no...

again, curious to know why if you want to speak up....even if you have to get the message to me anonymously to just post up as a quote, id like to at least hear why. maybe some feedback can come from it?

I'm a no. I have visions of clones running around all over, unless the price can be so high as to discourage people from buying sets. The only pieces I know of that can't be bought oem are the door sills, maybe just run those.

I bet the 3 "no" voters all have a huge stash of cladding that they are holding on to until retirement.....

I have two right front fender spares and that's all. I just had to buy a left front from Ray Moore for my Sy. Parts are out there, I've rebuilt one truck completely and now replaced two parts on my Sy. Everything is out there, you just have to pony up for it. There are trucks being parted if you don't want to spring for nos parts.

I'd like to see it happen, just in case. The simple fact is you can't find this stuff, and if your lucky enough to find something you can use....you'd batter have a checkbook that's liquid cooled. Thanks in advance for your hard work and effort& time spent to help out our community.

I of course put yes.....I am all about this. I looked into doing the same not too long ago. My step father was in tool and die work for many of years and he was going to help with making vac molds for reproducing cladding. My issue was the cost up front and the demand or lack there of for the long haul. Wasn't sure if it was honestly worth the start up cost. I am all for it assuming the price is less then the cost of a fiberglass kit. With truck prices what they are I would rather spend a grand or two more and buy a full truck then just cladding. Price has been the main reason I have held off of finishing my Ty. :2cents:

Re: Important Poll, please vote: What if cladding...

my ty needs cladding just about all on the passenger side front to back, so it would be a great idea to reproduce either better or back to oem specs. if i bought new, better than oem cladding to replace the damaged side and left the oem cladding on the driver side then it would look tacky. so, price would have to definitely be reasonable for me to wanna do a complete set.

i think it would invite non syty'ers or clones to run around and claim true syty ownership
and slightly bring down the value of our true syty's.

perhaps, if this deal went through the only way to keep it for our trucks is to use the truck # of said vehicle that is requesting the sale? :2cents:

haven't voted yet because i'm still on the fence. no offense to any of you guys here with clones or the four doors. this is more towards the s10 communities that seem to hate us for our trucks because they don't own a syty.

Hopefully I dont catch shit for saying this much... with what I know, all efforts would be made that cladding would be sold to SyTy owners only and not sold to people specifically making clones.

The effort behind this is to help the value of our trucks, not hurt it by mass reproduction so that all the s-series guys get their hands on it and can claim they own a sy-clone or ty-clone

Although, I would LOVE to see them sold to "syty" only customers, let's be reasonable here. We cannot expect the business(man) who makes the cladding to refuse to make a profit from a sale, just because it won't be on a certified syty. Real world=$$$ talks. Although we may cringe....the seller should sell as many sets of cladding as the auto world demands. Refusing business would be foolish:2cents:

Devils Advocate. How many seriously good clones do you see running around now? Yeah, cladding is expensive right now and some pieces are a PITA to get, but its still available if you make an effort.

I think everyone is under the assumption here that the cladding cost is going to be next to nothing and cheap to buy and the next thing you know, the s-series board has a sub-forum for SyTy-Clones. That is not going to be the case. The goal is to make it available again at a reasonable cost. What that cost is, I have no idea... I dont think anyone has an idea at the moment until more information can be discussed that I am not a part of. We all know this sort of undertaking isnt cheap. There is absolutely no way the parts are going to be offered for super cheap either, else this would have been done long ago im sure.

Also, no offense, but the S-Series owners in most ways are cheaper than we are. The cladding would be worth more than their trucks if they bought it. Truth hurts. :D

i agree with the "foolish" part 100%. i was going to include that in my reply but forgot.

this poll isn't like that one a while back where if you said yes then that meant you HAD to buy (sweatshirts i think) is it? i was put on the naughty list cause i didn't see the part where you had to buy.

i just need SOME cladding pieces not all.

Nope, this is pure interest. I think I mentioned a few posts back...if it doesnt get enough interest, it'll probably go back on the backburner while other things take place.

Re: Important Poll, please vote: What if cladding...

i also own an 89 saleen and there are a ton of clones out there but i dont think its hurting the value of it at all. Now my saleen only has maybe 68000mi on it. I dont drive it enough to remember and i buy strictly saleen parts for it and get raped. My point is yes my ty is a collector and has the all black gmc lettering but its also get 127000 miles and is kinda a dd and gets worked hard too. The saleen parts didnt get hurt value wise, so i personally dont think ours will but i have been known to be wrong before

Re: Important Poll, please vote: What if cladding...

Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. If s10/15 owners want/can afford to they can make a clone with whats available now on the market. BUILD THEM!!!

What a bunch of pussies. If you can't afford to play the game move onto something else. It sounds like everybody wants something for nothing. That's not how it works. It costs money to restore a car/truck or a house. Buy it done or don't bother with it at all. So a hunk of cladding costs a few hundred bucks.Stay out of the bar for a few nights and the money you saved will be used for what you need.
