Cage, well i should say roll bar is 90% done. Door bars are all that remains. Lots of work I think I have 5 days into it at this point. I could do another in half the time though.

roll bar looks good.

Re: Project Never Ends

The swain has been 100% trouble free. Its not my favorite color and the texture is equal to 60 grit sandpaper but it performs perfect so far. I have been told you can paint over the swain with high temp paint.

Grease marks seem to burn off and not leave any stains, I would like to send the upper section of downpipes off to get done also so they match, just too many other things to do still.

Re: Project Never Ends

I heard that color is the only color of "real" ceramic coating. My biggest concern is it lasting, so I should be safe there. Just getting the headers done. Everything else will be wrapped. Thanks for the response.

Jeff,

You may want to tie the to back bars together. Mine are done just below the ceiling line where the bars start to angle downward. It will make a big difference in the strength and help with stabilizing the rear section of the chassis. What did you decide to do with the front door bars. I can shoot a couple if pic if you need me to.

Re: Project Never Ends

Jeremy and I discussed just that bar. Easy to add for sure...we just debated on it a bit. As you can see those bars in that area are not painted yet.

Door bar extension from hoop is in, I have the "sleeves" similar to yours cut, I know where I want holes in floor just waiting on the last clevis's I need to arrive tomorrow then i can bend the tube and weld the bottom mount. Should be done friday.

Re: Project Never Ends

How are you attaching it to the frame? Guessing through the floor and something welded to the frame that the tubes will be welded to?

Re: Project Never Ends

Yes bars go through the floor. In the rear the bars go directly into the corner of the rear frame, tube actually laid up agaist the diagnol brace that is there. I then added some gussets from tube to frame.

For the main hoop goes through the floor, then I welded some 3" x 3/16" flat plate on each side from tube to frame, with one of the plates going at an angle into the body mount bracket. Was easy to do actually and very strong. To be NHRA legal it has to be attached to frame.

Now keep in mind for anybody considering a roll bar/cage etc. With the bars attached directly to the frame its like a big drum inside. Noise from my fuel pump, engine (solid mounts), you name it is brought directly inside the cab about 6" from your ear.

I do plan to add padding and wrap all the tubes at some point to help. But there are disadvantages to bars inside for sure.

Re: Project Never Ends

I plan on running a 10pt. Don't know if I legally need it yet but will be doing it anyway for safety reasons. I don't know how I will fit in the truck being 6'5". That's 1.75 tube right?

Re: Project Never Ends

I actually did 1 5/8 x .083 chromoly, which is NOT legal for a roll bar, but it is for a full cage.

Roll bars don't need to be certified though, cages do. so basically this could be converted to a cage and certified later if someone wanted to.
