has anyone converted a HV select pump into high pressure only?

The pumps that are cracking are the pickups fully welded? Has anyone cracked a 55A or just the 55HV?

If the pickups are welded what rod are they using?

if it is not possible to turn a select pump into a high pressure, then i think by adding a pickup support to the standard M55A would be fine...The custom pickups we do for the sheetmetal pans have these welded on.

mike you have it backwards.

the 55a now has a thinner casting on the neck between the main body and the main cap flange.

The m55hv i beleive still has the thicker neck.

I beleive the 55hv

10550 for the M Select pump and mel-210s for the pickup

I replied over in the other thread.

From the information that I have gathered melling switched castings about 3 years ago so unless you ordered the 10550 I would be worried that you have the newer "weak" style casting.

I was looking though some photos and saw something interesting in waller's album where is showed a m55hv that has a tag on it like the 10550 does and it was the old style casting. So I would say if you get one that doesn't have that tag you don't have the old style.

Both the m55a and the m55hv have the newer thinning castings. You have the order from the m-select series to get the older style castings. The pictures in my link are of the newer m55hv and the m-select that is the old design

Re: Pulled engine today and found... (pics)

so if you wanted a M55a then you now need to order the 10553? This is high pressure as opposed to high volume?

Found some M55as on ebay but cannot tell if they are old or new :(

Re: Pulled engine today and found... (pics)

the way i get it is this
m55 is standard volume and standard pressure
m55a is standard volume and high pressure
m55hv is high volume and standard pressure

Also depending on what oil system you are using having the high volume will result in higher pressure as well. If I remember correctly cloneman you have erue's oil system so the notice in higher pressure wont be as noticed as me using all the stock oil lines

Re: Pulled engine today and found... (pics)

do you happen to have any pics of that area when the motor was being built? or did you just pick it up from the shop done?

Where are these part numbers?

I spoke with Melling Tech Support and they said that the thicker performance M55a version is 10553 which is what Ed Hess repeated.

He suggested a chromoly IS shaft - PN - 12550

The only small problem I am having is the pickup - on Jegs it is PN 689 - 55S1 but someone else has said PN MEL 210s.

I am figuring that the 55S1 pickup normally goes on the 55 or 155, so it will fit on the 10553 as all that is different is the size of casting. Is that about right?

Re: Pulled engine today and found... (pics)

here i scanned these out of my melling catalog. Both the newer melling HV and 55A pumps have the thinner castings.. the select pump to the best of my knowledge is not available in high pressure only. the 10553 pump is standard volume and pressure.. I suppose you could take this pump and add stiffer springs to get the same result as the 55a, and have the old casting. But out of the box there is no direct replacement for the 55A in a select model. All you guys ordering the 10552 pumps are getting the stock pressure with 10% increase in volume.. not that there is anything wrong with that :)

Re: Pulled engine today and found... (pics)

Mike, from what he said on the phone, the 10553 comes with a spring to make it a higher pressure pump. Not sure how that works but that is what hes said.

On summit it is listed as a kit - is that why?
