Re: should BMFB be a big gun??

I can understand why people get frustrated with stuff like this now. If your going to vote on something read at least half of the info.

the reason its being concidered is because its
1. a first gen blazer
2. V6
3. turbo
4. AWD (ty transfercase/front diff)
5. auto trans

people decided to have a discussion about it because there is a question of what it means to some people. Soe people think of it as an exclusive club where only the cladded trucks can be. Other people think of it as a title bestowed onto those who know the trucks and how to get them actually perform. It is mechnically speaking the same truck as a syty, and more-so than many of the 'big guns'.

I say give it to him,he busted his ass to build it and kept the board informed of everything he did,so in my opinion he deserves it.

Many of the big guns? You only have two SyTy parts in your truck, right? A front diff and transfer case. The front diff isnt even that special. As far as i can remember, all the 2wd SyTy big guns are running Chevy V6's.

Not to stir the pot, (oh wait, I am too late) What about going to a bowtie block. How does going to a bowtie block differ from going to the 3.8?

Does anyone read before they post? doesn't look like it. The truck is fast as hell and I know he put a lot of work into it, I followed his build. I think it's kickass that he's running the times that he is. The whole point here is there were rules put in place (by this forum) that stated how you were able to get big gun status. The rule states that the 10.99 must be in a SyTy or SGT, which this clearly is not. shouldn't even be in question....

After reading everything and thinking about it, I feel we should make an exception in this case and give him the honor of a big gun title.

I feel an S-series truck, that's AWD with a V6 is close enough to warrant a pass in this case.

Re: should BMFB be a big gun??

According to the forum rules- no it is not a SYTY or SGT so no big gun status. But then again rules get changed and altered over the years and I think if the vehicle meets the basic parts that a syty has- v6, awd, turbo then its pretty close and why not give it to him. Just because a few Big guns might get butt hurt about it. No difference then guys swapping to 2wd and then then still calling it a syty. To me the thing that makes these trucks different is the awd, v6, turbo and his truck has all of that. I am not saying open this up to all the v8 s10's/blasers that drag race but if it's a v6 awd why not. Hell someone give this guy some cladding and then maybe no one will bitch about it.

I know your not talking about me, cause I won't be hurt if he gets it....If the forum votes that way then that's the way it will be, and I will be one of the first to congratulate him....Everyone has different feelings about this issue and if i'm in the minority then no prob man, I know rules/criteria can be changed, I can handle it. These trucks mean a lot to me and tried very hard when modding mine to do it in the most tastefull way I could.
Just fyi, I also own a stock 45,000 mile 99% all original ww 93 that I care for very much....

Not taking anything away from his truck, I voted no. It's not a SyTy. I might have voted the other way if it had a complete SyTy driveline

make sure anyone with a v8 in a sy or ty body is also not a big gun status
since the truck never came with that either

Re: should BMFB be a big gun??

Based on Captain Morgan's post from here, the original rules are pretty clear. "You have to provide proof of running 10.99 or better with a SyTySGT of any flavor (V6, V8, 2WD, AWD, ect.)" Obviously "etc." leaves that post open to some interpretation, but SyTySGT doesn't. Although I have never seen the rules for being a Big Gun, it seems to me that they may need to be changed, or at least clarified.

If the rules are to be amended, how about...

Any first gen T-Series with a full SyTy drive and powertrain [perhaps from a documented donor], or...

A real SyTy with any drive and powertrain.

That's simple, and it allows for non SyTys to be Big Guns. Although maybe still not the one in question.

Re: should BMFB be a big gun??

I know, but this needs to be addressed for the future too.

Edit - I hate to exclude anyone in such a small community, but this seems really simple to me. Clearly, we're divided right down the middle, so it may not be as simple to others. It should be noted too, that my rules would exclude me from being a Big Gun too. My actual Typhoon will never run 10s with me as the owner, and my clone won't have a SyTy powertrain.

Not sure what the hype is, the fact is he went 10's which is very respectable and a job well done.

Having a Big Gun title above his name, really gets him nothing except a few extra letters. Doesn't make him any more cool or less cool due to letters.

I have enjoyed watching his build, and find it fun and valuable information on this site. Calling the truck a syty big gun I am not sure is correct though. At some point you have to draw the line, some will agree others not. But I always considered the line drawing with a syty in the 10's.
