Re: SyTy Secrets, REVEALED!

I hate to add any more confusion, but I have an Apple Red/Apple Red 1992 Typhoon. I haven't seen anyone mention any so far, so here is my VIN: 1GDCT18Z1N0810950.

I heard that there were 14 made of this color in 92.

 I'd love to have the opportunity to do what you're doing. I track down SyTys in my spare time, and try and soak up as much of this information as possible, all because I find it fun.

Back on topic: If I'm understanding you right, the 2 Syclone Challenge trucks are NOT included in the 3009 figure because they were converted Sonomas, and probably didn't have Syclone VINs. Right?

Not necessarily those specific trucks, but there are a couple/few that are conversions and not "off the line" Syclone's.

For members asking about parts and availability of discontinued parts:

The "Supply Power" site is where you want to go for that once I get the passwords set up. For example, let's say you want a new intake for your truck, but it is discontinued. What you would do, is use the GM TECHLINK site to find out GM's part number for that truck per the parts manual (pdf). Then, look at that number and there will also be another number. This is the supply index number. That is the ORIGINAL SUPPLIERS part number for GM. So let's say for example:

GM Part Number: 123-999-123
Supply Index: 222-0-888

You would take that 222-0-888 and enter that into the SUPPLY POWER search and it would bring up the original manufacturer of that part. Let's say it's Eaton Corp.. So, you call them. All the contact information will be listed in Supply Power for that company. They may still have left over inventory they may be willing to part with. The 222-0-888 is the original equipment manufacturers part number for GM.

*Note: Incase you don't know, General Malfunction does not build parts. They ASSEMBLE cars.

This could come in handy for cladding unless someone else has already tried.

Re: SyTy Secrets, REVEALED!

I am just holding my breath waiting to see if the vins on our Ty's correspond with the actual production #'s .

Elvis is this something you can find out?

Re: SyTy Secrets, REVEALED!

I don't have any good data to add to the thread, but I remember a few years back, a couple guys realized that they had Syclones with the same number. One turned out to be a regular '91 VIN, and the other was slightly different - decided to be pre-production or something.

I don't even remember the owners involved, and I doubt the posts survived all the board problems since then. However, I'm sure someone else remembers this incident and has the VINs memorized or can contact the owners involved or something.

I just mention this because it would be another "Syclone" VIN to start searching from.

Re: SyTy Secrets, REVEALED!

Yeah, that's the one.

Just for ease of reference in this thread, Zac has 1GDCT14Z1M8530113. SYTurbo also has 1GDCT14ZXM8530112. According to other VIN resources I've seen, the build number is actually the last six digits. Whereas most Sy's are 80____, these two are 53____.

It'd be great to see what these two are, and if there are any others in the same boat.

okay, I am going to chime in here and tell both of you with the M85 in your VIN have some sort of pre-production unit.

I have a list with about 10 typhoons on it, with similar VINs.

Your trucks are legit. 90% sure about that. Technically, they arent supposed to exist either. 100% about that.

As of right now, I know of 4 truck with a similar VIN as you guys.

I dont know what they mean, but I'll be sure to find out all I can for you.

This triggered something in my memory which might come up later on in this endeavor... Somewhere between '97 and '00 a Syclone came up for sale in duPont Registry which was "The only Apple Red/Apple Red Syclone produced". IIRC, it was said to be originally owned by a GM employee. It had 6k miles and was priced at $31k. I may still have that issue of DPR, but if I do, it's in a box in a storage unit in Alaska, so don't expect me to dig up the VIN out of that ad any time soon :)

Yes it is, read the 5th post in this thread, it's by the new owner.
I don't think the SY in that post is the same one. I posted my reasons there to keep this thread on topic.

I know Elvis is under a lot of pressure and it doesn't matter if it takes months to get the information, but I was just currious if he tried any of the SoGT VINs.

Elvis has left the building

IMO he bit off more than he can chew.We have had senior exec's try to get the info,so what makes ya think an engineer has better access?

Just because he's not as big of a syty enthusiast as you or I? It just seems a little premature.
