yeah i was looking at the pic sportmachines put up and his was the other way around. yep its pretty tight fit with the qa1's and 2.25's thats why I have been curious about the 2.5 inch springs. Definitely a nice upgrade.

Hey Mark,

Ya, had a mishap on Tuesday. After installing the MSD 6AL-2 and the switch, I went to go get gas. I didn't even get to test out the 2step yet on the street besides in the driveway. On the way back, 5 mins from my house the truck shut off as I was making a turn. I figured it was my alternator. Well I put it in Neutral and tried to start it and it was very slow cranking.

Then I saw smoke coming from the hood so I opened it and saw a small fire by the radiator. My dad and I hid the Power Wire for the MSD box under the fan shroud and it got shorted out by the fender where we fished it through. By mistake we didn't wrap it with split loom and it touched the fender from being cut.

Long story short lol, luckily I had a fire extingusher in the Ty that my dad had in it when he used to drive it. Leason learned, and will be installing a fuse on the power wire this time along with split loom.

Fire truck came and a couple of police cars and then I finally got it home on a flat bed.

Everything is cool now.

That powder makes a big ol mess!

Yes it does but at least the Ty didn't get burned to the ground and I'm sure some people know how my heart just sank when I seen the smoke coming from under the hood. My dad was there within 5-min with a bigger fire extinguisher but I had the fire out. Cleaned everything today and got it started after charging the battery.

I'm glad you were able to save her. Lesson learned. She'll be cleaner and better protected from now on. Keep the good work, Sean.

WOW.
I'm gonna go put in the extinguisher before I drive it again.

Yup. I've been meaning to put one in my Ty for a while. This settles it. I've heard enough horror stories about these things catching fire.

Everything is all good now. My dad and I hooked up the power wire for the MSD again, this time with an inline fuse. Glad the MSD box wasn't fried. Will have a pic of the 2-step switch on the shifter tomorrow.

Next is welding the propshaft loop and TCC lockup switch.

Thanks guys!

I will be starting my new project shortly. Going to swap on my Vortec heads and a custom cam. Also will be doing other stuff as funds allow.

Nice and I always love seeing the progress of your truck , if I would have known at your age what I know now I would've bought my Ty then and never moved out and blew all my money on it. Keep it going !

Such a nice truck. I will probably pick up a Ty one day, and I hope it looks half as nice as yours.

Sean lucky you noticed the fire on time before
it got bigger i recommend installing a battery
kill switch and hook up the MSD there this will be
safer and faster than loosing the battery terminal ..

The Fun begins! Vortec Heads and Custom Cam swap. Haven't tore the Ty down this far before but hopefully everything goes well. Here are a couple pics of a couple hours of work. More to come soon.

Re: Typhoon #1215 Mods

Some more progress tonight. Removed the exhaust manifolds and lower IC. I think the Accesory brackets are next.
