v8 swap anyone?

Re: v8 swap anyone?

If your looking to walk into a car parts store and buy parts that fit and work on doing this swap, you cart is going to be very empty when you leave the shop. I bought parts that were "made" for the swap, and didn't. As for manifolds well your pretty much making your own or use truck manifolds and machine them for v-bands for a turbo application. Even the 4l80-e trans lever still needed a small adjustment to make room. Your biggest issues will be a oil pan and mounts. After that it does get easier.

milodon took care of the oil pan problem at least

Up to a point I guess, you still need the an fittings, lines and oil filter adapter. By the time you buy those you might as well carve up a gm pan.

Re: v8 swap anyone?

Renz,

who is that person you are talking about does he/she have a number. I am currently looking at the RPM oil pan and the solid engine mounts. I just ordered the headers thru Sandersons. The price for the RPM oil pan w/pick up is 595.00 and another 165.00 for engine mounts. According to Sanderson, I need the solid mounts because of the header wraps around the steering shaft.

-Does anyone know where I can purchase a transmission support brace for a 4l60e trans?

Milodon isn't a person it's a company:

Re: v8 swap anyone?

Are you accumulating parts or are you planning to do this swap yourself?

I think you seriously need to rethink your entire plan (and maybe your life) if you really just asked this question.

Maybe this Mildon guy will help him out... God knows we haven't.

I guess he is doing some extra research. I often find myself wondering why people get into a project like this because 6 months from now it will be a roller for sale as they ran out of money or just got in to deep.

Pretty much. I feel like I can tell who's going to finish something as soon as the first questions start getting asked.

I'm batting about .800.

I am accumulating the parts to do it myself.
-oil pan
-solid engine mounts
-wiring harness
-headers
-shorten drive shaft
-non drive by wire ECU
-exhaust system
-misc parts that I may be missing

Who's oil pan? Milodon or Modded GM, what harness? who's headers? does non drive by wire mean cable?

Re: v8 swap anyone?

Norm,
I looked into several places that have made their own, but they were one off. I called RPM, orderd the pan (2 to 3 wks back order).
I asked about the Midlen guy (alot of BS, but no info one him/first time hearing about GM). If either of these members are selling pans, can someone post some info, where I can order a pan?
Harness is a spintech ( thinks their name) another member recommended them. 5 wks to make the harness, but its plug and play

Re: v8 swap anyone?

Norm, ghanks cor the link, this oil pan looks exactly like the one from RPM. The other oil pan you mentioned, is that a members pan or a vendor pan? In your opinion, is it that much better and does the cost justify the purchase?

don't even know why i'm bothering at this point.....but have you read your own thread?

Read post #44:

it's not plug and play if your adding turbo(s)...you'll need to add a return line bung on the pan, unless you plan on tying into the oil system by some other means.

Re: v8 swap anyone?

Your best bet is to search the hell out of LS1tech, or read every thread in the conversion/hybrid section. ;)

Re: v8 swap anyone?

I would buy a Hummer H3 pan like what I did, get it welded ( modded) to fit. I think there was a member here, maybe check group purchases and see that was selling them. personally I wouldn't go with the Milodon as you need to buy the fitting etc and that's just more crap to leak or cause problems.

Re: v8 swap anyone?

Well right now it wil be N/A until I get back on the mainland. I have the engine mounts, LS6 intake... On order, headers and 220r cam w/581 lift. Looking for a set of 243 or 799 cyl heads. I think this combo would get me very close to 400 hp
