here are some pics by 4C FED....he's made the C5 rear conversion so, the Z51 should be very similar.

LMAO, yep it's been sitting in the garage for about a year since its last road trip.

The other day I was working under the hood when I saw a cob web that look like a Black Widow web. I though to myself that I should get a broom & sweep it away. I got busy in the moment & forgot about the web until my hand brushed against it & I actually felt the sticky web. It made me jump. So I grabbed the broom & swept the mo-fo away. Well I nice big Widow fell to the floor which I proceeded to smash the snot out of.

Which reminds me, tomorrow I need to set a bug bomb off underneath of the truck.

That's crazy you live in Galt, I lived in Elk Grove for 2 years and never saw that you lived there. I would've called you up to check out the truck, oh well ;)

i've got a BUNCH of parts that may NOT fit

i'm still waiting for TT350 (cbrperformance) to produce some C5 adapters. it'll be a couple of weeks before installation occurs but, it will ALL be documented!

i'll make the adapter if you haven't found anyone yet. I assume it'd be similar to the baer bracket. If you want to make a posterboard bracket for me to work from that'd make life pretty easy.

thanks for the offer but, i'm not exactly sure what i need just yet. in a couple of weeks, i'll have time to get the rear end apart and try to come up with something.

is that bracket right off of the f-body rear? I wanna go to the junk yard and pick up all this stuff for my truck if it is.

Re: Z51 front and possibly rear install info....

Hi, im gettin my CBR C5 kit tomorrow and since the Z06 are way too much for my 17in wheels i want to get the Z51s. At a Vette forum someone told me that the Z51s are a tight fit in the 17in ZR1s but they do fit (mine arent ZR1s but are 8.5x17in), so now im wondering if the calipers for the Z51 rotors are the same as most C5 C6 calipers or are there any variants i cant notice?
Are the Z06 red calipers they sell in e bay any different from the regular grey or black C6 and C5s? Tryin to save some money here.

Thanks.

i don't believe there is any difference other than the color and script of the wording.

Hey HotRod....

The C5,C5 ZO6, C6 (std), and C6 Z51 calipers are basically identical as you figured out. Red paint and some changes in the script are really the differences.

The C6 Z51 does us a different abutment bracket (thing that mounts the caliper and holds the pads) with an offset to clear the bigger Z51 rotor. You'll need those (instead of std C5 or C6 stuff) if you're going to run the Z51 rotors. Other than that the rest of the hardware (brake pads, guide pins, bolts, etc) should be the same.

You should check your peticular wheels out, especially since it'll be close. Check out Kore3's website, they've got templates for all of the various C5 & C6 brake packages (even for C5 calipers on the 14" C6 ZO6 rotors), and see if it'll fit your wheels before you spend $$$ on parts.

Re: Z51 front and possibly rear install info....

This thread has been dead way too long :)

I'd like to ask a few questions so I can go ahead an get the parts I need and give this a shot.

What is going on in this picture of 4C FED's install and why does it need to be done?

Modified-flange.jpg

Is there a spacer involved someplace?
Modified-axle-installed2.jpg

Does anyone have a picture of an unmodified flange so we can get an idea of what's been done here?

It looks like centering the caliper on the rotor won't be a problem if you machine down the mounting surface of the mounting bracket.
C5view2copy.jpg

so far the parts list of what it looks like I need looks like this

ls1 backing plates #10444625, 10444626
z51 Rear Brake Caliper Brackets #88964167
red single pot c5 rear calipers #88895130, 88895131 (I read someplace that the newer black front calipers are stronger but, is there any different besides color for the rear brakes?)
Z51 size Rotors (http://www.racingbrake.com/Z51_REAR_05_08_p/2069-311.htm)
brake pads
HotRodV6 E-brake cable http://www.s-seriesforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=79778
adjustable brake proportioning valve (what size are the brake lines going in to the stock unit?)

what else do I need to know?
what else would I need to complete this set-up?

my front brake kit just arrived today !

You have to angle cut the flange so that it will fit & sit flat with the backing plate.
And since this is a Sy rear end, you need to drill an extra hole.

Modified-flange.jpg

No spacer. Just showing that the axle flanges are turned down to ensure that they sit flat inside the rotor.
Modified-axle-installed2.jpg

The flange has been turned down to 5.9". I think it was somewhere around 6.1" prior to turning it down. The original/stock diameter of the flange prevents it from sitting flat in the recess of the rotor. This in turn causes the rotor to wobble.

It looks like centering the caliper on the rotor won't be a problem if you machine down the mounting surface of the mounting bracket.

They are already centered without machining. That photo shows that the machined surface of the caliper abutment sits on the un-machined surface of the backing plate. If needed you could machine that surface (left red arrow) relative to the axle housing mounting surface.
Once the Sy is running, I'm going to run mine for awhile and then check for even pad wear to see if it's actually needed.
