This thread has been dead way too long
I'd like to ask a few questions so I can go ahead an get the parts I need and give this a shot.
What is going on in this picture of 4C FED's install and why does it need to be done?
You have to angle cut the flange so that it will fit & sit flat with the backing plate.
And since this is a Sy rear end, you need to drill an extra hole.
Is there a spacer involved someplace?
No spacer. Just showing that the axle flanges are turned down to ensure that they sit flat inside the rotor.
Does anyone have a picture of an unmodified flange so we can get an idea of what's been done here?
The flange has been turned down to 5.9". I think it was somewhere around 6.1" prior to turning it down. The original/stock diameter of the flange prevents it from sitting flat in the recess of the rotor. This in turn causes the rotor to wobble.
It looks like centering the caliper on the rotor won't be a problem if you machine down the mounting surface of the mounting bracket.
They are already centered without machining. That photo shows that the machined surface of the caliper abutment sits on the un-machined surface of the backing plate. If needed you could machine that surface (left red arrow) relative to the axle housing mounting surface.
Once the Sy is running, I'm going to run mine for awhile and then check for even pad wear to see if it's actually needed.
so far the parts list of what it looks like I need looks like this
ls1 backing plates #10444625, 10444626
z51 Rear Brake Caliper Brackets #88964167
red single pot c5 rear calipers #88895130, 88895131 (I read someplace that the newer black front calipers are stronger but, is there any different besides color for the rear brakes?)
Z51 size Rotors (
