Re: Customrestore selling all his stuff

This is probably the worst time EVER to sell those trucks :(

Bummer for him, that was a LOT of time wasted just to locate it all.

I REALLY have a hard time believing he isnt a member of the board. Maybe after this is over he will "come out"?! ---

He has been on the board before. He only made a few posts as I recall.

Wow, definitely surprised to be reading this. I too have spoke with John, and he is a very nice guy. Hope everything is ok with him.

Any clue when we will know how they will be sold (individual vs grouped)? Anyone wanna go half-sies on a Marblro? But seriously, if they will be sold individually, I might have to pick up one of his rougher Sys...

Re: Customrestore selling all his stuff

Wonder how much a 93 ty would go for... maybe I can give up on mine and start fresh... Anyone know where we can find out pricing?

This is one of my theories on what could happen in the SYTY market. Someone will dump their current ride and buy one from the collection as an upgrade. If they have to sell quick to help fund the purchase, the market will drop as low prices will make a quick sale.

I have a 43K mile super clean untouched Sy that I would sell in exchange for a super low mile version in the same or better condition.

I have a 23K 92 Ty with an incredible interior but the underside and poor repaint does not match the interior. (I will easily fix that but it is alot of work/time). Same situation for the Ty. Sell it and get one with lower miles where it matches in all areas.

As far as pricing goes. No one will know. It's an auction and I doubt they will advertise the reserve.

Additional info will become available prior to the auction. As they obtain the info they will release it to attract attention. I'll be there as I need to see the Impala SS among other things.

Are all the syty's in his collection in primo condition? It was my understanding that he just bought any he came across, they weren't necessarily immaculate (relatively speaking). Obviously he doesn't have junk, but for example are they all low mileage in mint shape?

I know he bought salvage titled and 100k+ mile ones.He also bought the nicest and rarest trucks that money can buy.

I spoke with John about a couple of weeks ago and he felt the Sy/Ty will be a collectible and potentially valuable in a relatively short time.
My gut feeling is that he is right

hmmm buy a bunch of limited production vehicles thinking the market will bring you big profits later on. Lay yourself on the line to make this happen. Continue with hopes and dreams. Reality sets in (thanks tumbling economy) and your tapped out and must sell to stay afloat.

I hope this is not the situation (maybe he is moving on to other things like spending time with family as he realizes life is too short ((met a 51 year old gentleman last night that is doing just this - selling his collection, will keep one special car and his boat. He recently lost his mom and will now spend time fishing and traveling with his dad and his family). Within the last year or so I have developed the opinion that the SyTy market would never rebound to big numbers (I truely hope I am wrong) but John may now have the same opinion and time has run out.

Can speculate for days on this one. Only way to know is to talk to him directly and he lets the cat out of the bag. If it does have anything to do with financial difficulties, I doubt the proverbial cat would see the light of day. Negative financial info is not something one usually shares, especially on this level. It is interesting that he has the Camaros and G8's and they are up in the auction as well. This has to be a clue but can go either way in the speculation discussion. Only time will tell.

Here is what the auction place has on their website:

Auction of one of the largest collection of late model GM muscle cars in the world - over 300 cars will be sold to the highest bidder.* Most of these cars have fewer than 100 miles.* Many of them are one of a kind customs.

Re: Customrestore selling all his stuff

So many predictions of escalating prices, and SyTy's are going up, etc, etc.

Sad to say it did not happen. The reputation of our trucks blowing up, being difficult to tune ect... has definately hurt our market

Production numbers were too high compared to the others in the collection?

Re: Customrestore selling all his stuff

That's an interesting thread to read from start to finish.

If you read the entire thread, you will see some frustration by sellers in getting a response/payment from customrestore. He was banned atleast once form ebay. In another syty thread he came on to say he had problems with all the ebay spammers and false second offers, he hard to determining the real purchases and fakes.

Re: Customrestore selling all his stuff

GNX's weren't high. And lower than TTA. Of which it looks like he has a dozen or so.

I agree. When he said GN, my mind was only on a straight GN and not the X. I don't think the GNX cars have ever been reasonably priced for investment. Dealers gouged when they were new and they have always been steep in price. Yea they are higher now but when you look at the amount you invest in one car and your future reward of profit vs buying a few SyTy's (or others), one could form the opinion that buying 4 SyTy's would reap more future profit than one GNX. It's all in how someone feels the market will go. I think the TTA's have been able to be had at a more reasonable price/margin than the GNX so he has some of those.

Further details are needed.
I agree here also and I'm waiting patiently.

Re: Customrestore selling all his stuff

So the auction company is owned by CR?

Here is my theory----

No successful business man looses money on purpose. There is a master plan in place for this sale. Wether it be high reserves on the rare low mile ones to where he makes money and no reserve on the high mile ones. Im sure he WILL make out with a but load of money if some are sold.

Another theory is marketing....There is a HUGE car show going on that weekend. What better way to show off your collection to a wide variety of enthusiast's and charge them money to see them. IF one sell's for the high reserve price than he still makes out.

Plus he can have every single vehicle at the show.

The economy has been in the shitter now for a couple years. Smart people in business seen the problem coming before it even happened. Adjustments where made and people downsized and liquidated years ago. I don't see this as a fire sale to get out of trouble. If that where the case it would have been done a looooong time ago.

Large company's and small companies have already adjusted to the horrible economical times. Some company's went under, some hanged on with there last dime for hopes it would come back.

The field across the board has been decreased with the weak. The strong who survive in the end will reap the benefits.

I don't see CR being one of the weak.

I'm seeing it as a awesome marketing ploy to allow people to see his collection and make some extra play money.

I could be wrong but hey, im looking at the positive side....and what i would do. :D
