1)Our trucks get totalled for cladding being damaged. Not fair to the owners not to be able to repair these truck just because the cladding is broke.

2) If someone go's through the trouble to make a clone so what? I doubt there's going to be thousands of "Clones' out there Not many will go through the trouble to do that since there is so much more involved than just cladding.

3) If replacement cladding is avalible that fits better and lasts longer there's no reason to not support someone who's going to make it since I'll bet 99% of people who read this has a broken tab on their cladding somewhere!

4) This could help save our truck from being parted out more (Mentioned already)

I made the Typhoon plates and they went over pretty well. They got more attention when I started painting them in the color you guys wanted. I doubt it I put a poll up that I would have decided to go ahead and spend the money to make them. I just took a chance and did it. I've recovered my costs and it normally pays for the fuel when we go to the Homecoming/Nats if I sell a couple.
I appreciate the guy's who've purchased them!

I hope this go's forward as there is no one making a good replacement cladding. Fiberglass is not a good option. You'd spend another 10hrs per peice making them fit good and when your done it'll still be fiberglass. It'll crack and keep deteriorating/moving over time.
I voted yes!
I think Harmon will buy the first 30sets for the truck in his yard :)

What a bunch of pussies. If you can't afford to play the game move onto something else. It sounds like everybody wants something for nothing. That's not how it works. It costs money to restore a car/truck or a house. Buy it done or don't bother with it at all. So a hunk of cladding costs a few hundred bucks.Stay out of the bar for a few nights and the money you saved will be used for what you need.

I think it is unfair to classify ALL the people who are interested in this as "a bunch of pussies". :tdown:No one wants it for free. Most of us just want to be able to buy the parts without having to go on a scavenger hunt. What is wrong with wanting a better product. Like I said in my previous post I dont need cladding. Its is just nice to know that it is available. Nobody bought their SyTy thinking it would be cheap (including me). BTW not everyone here spends their money the way you think.

I am more for it from the durability aspect then the price. I don't mind paying for cladding. I knew when I bought my Ty that I would be buying some due to it missing some/most before I even purchased it. What I don't like, call me a pussy if you will, is paying top dollar for a shit product. Be it with my Ty, my SVTs or anything else in life. It would be easier to just buy another truck at this point and almost cheaper. Us as owners have created this problem and its about time we fix it. A vehicle should NEVER be parted and destroyed for a "body kit".... ;) More people will be willing and able to restore/preserve our trucks if and hopefully when this happens. I can't think of one reason for being against this.

Hey you old men need to calm down . .Now to defend both sides .

I dont believe trucks are being parted out because they are unable to find a piece or two of cladding .The pieces are out there , nos or refurbished . People not wanting to pay the asking price of what nos parts are left is why the claim of its not out there exists Any accident needng a full cladding kit sounds like the trucks beyond saving imo anyway .Majority of sytys getting parted out are for these 2 reasons.
1. syty is broke and instead of shelling out $$ to fix it , part out whats left. (sadly they are worth more in parts with the current market value.)
2. syty has been for sale for x amount of time and selling parts gets money coming in faster . Especially on used and abused or high mileage trucks .

People need to remember that these trucks were $25k+ new and list cladding prices at the time were literally an arm and a leg . Flash forward to our broken economy now and a 100% stock true low mileage syty "may" get its sticker price if its lucky. So yes, the current cheap ass owners are partially to blame for the "i wont pay that much attitude " in the air. If you dont feel your a cheap ass , then that wasnt for you .

Now i do feel there is a need for these parts to be recirculated .Seeing broken and repaired cladding for 50 less than what a good piece costs is bs any way you slice it . Hell ive seen still broken cladding being sold for the same price as good used stuff. So regardless of the price for these newer better fitting parts , the need is there .

Just dont be shell shocked when the new parts are the same price as the old parts . ;)

I'm still around. I also have a lot of molds. I just put things on hold due to having a kid......getting married......moving, etc.

I pretty much perfected the process and can produce cladding. It's just a matter of time and money. I'm currently working on another business I'm starting which is also taking most of my time.

That post is a bit old in regards to my mold techniques. I mainly stopped the posts because the amount of money I put into R&D, I really don't want people knowing what I've figured out. I learned a valuble lesson with my ALDL adapters that even if you give things away at a very reasonable price, people still will steal your ideas and try to profit from all the work you've done.

The idea of a thermoplatic mold is INCREDIBLY expensive. It just so happens I have access to injection molding machines, and that's not an issue, but a single steel mold can run upwards of 5-6 figures.

My method can be used for thermoplatics. I've done some minor testing for things like cladding tabs, but the molds are only good for about 100 parts before they need to be redone. That's why I focused on thermosetting materials, which are easier to work with and have a structural integrity that matches are exceeds the original materials.

The whole molding thing is an art and I'm very much a novice, but I've learned a lot, which has lead to parts being pulled. I've done heat tests, impact tests, etc. I've also destroyed a lot of cladding in the process.

The funny part is that if you have the process perfected.........it can be cheaper to make a mold........and cast a single piece than some people are charging for OEM pieces alone.

If you guys can be patient, once I have the clearance to spill more info out, it'll take this whole thing to a different level for the better.

Trust me, you want to wait for this....

Re: Important Poll, please vote: What if cladding...

I was in a predicament where my insurance wanted to total out mine bc of cladding and sad thing is that my friend is my insurance agent so he told me don't follow thru with claim. I have no problem spending more money than what we pay already for cladding but as said earlier, I want better.

As far as the comment about pussies and going out drinking to much, i think that was a little rash/harsh and unnecessary. As far as i know this community of ours is made up of a majority of 30+ yr old ppl and the average family man. we are more of a family than most model specific forums and clubs. Personally i have 2 kids(6yr old and 18mth old girls), a house, own my OWN company and low mileage 89 saleen, 07 R1 and i take a lil bit of pride and joy when it comes to my toys. Just look at my signature.

I really hope for this thing takes off there are a bunch of very valid point I think the insurance point is a very good reason also!

For the people that think we should just man up and buy NOS parts or take offs from a part out you have to understand that the people that have NOS parts have been selling out here lately and parting out a truck to me is just stupid:tdown:

More than likley the only people that dont want this to happen are the people who have been buying cladding in hopes of selling one day when the demand (and price) for cladding is through the roof:2cents:

Re: Important Poll, please vote: What if cladding...

I'd agree with the insurance part, but it's kinda funny when people say I got this for a great deal, but when it comes to putting out some good coin for something that actualy makes the vehicle unique, they complain. Yeah I'm older than most, big deal, age is just a number. We can still play with cars when we get older. I can't comment on the cladding that's in the works, but if your a purist it's not original. Not that it matters to alot of sy/ty owners, most just want to drive their trucks.

Re: Important Poll, please vote: What if cladding...

I think its a great idea then more sy/tys can be saved and fixed back to the way they should be.

Re: What if cladding...

I'd be interested eventually. Down the road when I paint the truck, I wouldnt mind being able to get a better more durable kit that would fit better and get rid of the gaps but still look exactly like the stock cladding (other than the filling of gaps, etc of course). I'd then just store the original set of cladding.

when I paint I would like new cladding but
It may be two years before I paint it.

If my truck was like Ryan's(RMcCourt) or any other completely stock and original truck is, I would definitely want OEM cladding but due to the fact that my truck will never be 100% original again due to the PO, I just want something durable that will last for me out driving.

Its good to see the % in favor rising and the total number of people voting in general rising too.

Hey Adam, how is it looking for this?

Only time will tell. From what I know so far, things are going good. There are other things that need to get established and working before things can start happening in a retail manner. This is definitely not an overnight process and reality is that it's going to take months to get everything underway.

Keeping the votes coming and the interest level up will help.

I dont have any new information to report.

Glad to hear that at least things are still going forward.
I hope that as a result of this more SyTy's will be resurrected and less will be parted out.
Thank you for your efforts in keeping our trucks out of the graveyard.

Another thing about affordable cladding being reproduced, do you think there would be less trucks finding their way into salvage auctions over minor fender benders?

This is pretty much how I feel. I'm a bit OCD and a perfectionist. Even if it's not the smartest choice, there's just something about having all the parts replaced with 100% stock stuff. But at the same time, my truck will never ever be 100% stock again, so I might as well go with the improved part. I don't mind the cost so much, since it's insurance paying for it, but improved availability and durability would be a bonus even if it didn't get any cheaper.
