Re: should BMFB be a big gun??

I don't see what the big deal is anyways- not to take away anything from the big guns but only on this site is a 10.99 a ( Big Gun ). Guess I am just used to the big dog title around here with cars running 8's and 7's lol. Even my 9 sec daily driver gto was considered slow. I get the challange doing it with a old v6 engine but some big guns here are running v8s which in that case should not be that big of a deal, esp when other v6's and inline 6's have been going much faster then 10's. But that's just me. Again I am not trying to offend anyone or single anyone out.

they also aren't driving awd bricks, so they have many factors on their side. rwd gets it done more easily drag racing...otherwise everyone would be awd. aerodynamics and weight are another thing we don't have on our side.

Maybe so but I have seen new GTR's run 8's and many running 9's and they are awd and may even weigh more then a SY lol. They do have better aerodynamics though. But there are vans running 10's and they are heavy bricks aswell. But the whole it's hard to run 10's with awd is old way thinking seeing that many awd cars are running much faster with the same weight and in some case even more weight then a SY and some doing it with 4 bangers ie- dsm's and evo's. A better statement would be it's challenge to get a syty to run 10's using old motors/ ecms and ign setups.

How much nitrous were you running on your GTO?

Talk to Switzer and see what it costs to get a gtr in the 10's...let alone 8's

Just how bad do you think the ecm/ motor and igntion set-up is.

The Syty ecm is a fast unit. The engine is pretty stout and can make a good amount of power if it's tune correctly.

The ignition system is not that bad at all. The mountain motor top fuel, pro stock still using old dizzy's. The buick guys for yrs have stepped away from the DIS to the dizzy set-up on very high powered engines.

Now the aerodynamics is another thing......................

Check his sig...200 shot, which is what I was guessing before I even saw it. My buddy use to have a 200 shot on his too. Now MIXEDBREED has other things done to his GTO as well, most of which I imagine is listed in his sig also.

I'm gonna say $80K car, with probably another $40K in mods...call it $120!

Re: should BMFB be a big gun??

Close to double the cost on that Switzer gtr for parts and labor (900hp). Nice cars but expencive to put together. If you do it right you can make your money back or better though...highly desirable rides

It was a rhetorical question, what does the car run without nitrous? A high 10 instead of low 9's? I will agree and say 10's are very achievable for any street car running E85 and the right turbo combination.

Dunno if a separate thread is applicable for this 10.99 chit-chat (but here goes)..
  • Ask MikeW (the owner of a Nissan GT-R) about the "so called advantages"
as the factory doesnt make modding, racing, or launching of one as easy as some
folks think (and also see which of his vehicles he thinks is faster cost-wise).
    -------------------
    SY #2364
    1992 Aspen TY #0954(sold)
1987 Bucik GN lots of mods
2010 Camaro SS, 89 IROC Convt.
    2010 Nissan GT-R
    2009 CTS-V

  • Why compare 10.99 in a 20 year old truck to a new car?
    - Any new SRT Dodge Rams routinely run this et?
    - How about an older Ford Lightning?
    - Even most TBSS probably arent into single digits with LS engines (so easy??)
So its still a good milestone.

  • When benchracing its a bit unfair to compare 2WD
GTRs, Vipers, Corvettes, Shelbys, Cameros and GTOs (which are cars and
"should be faster" to AWD Typhoon's/Syclones.

Re: should BMFB be a big gun??

Local GTR owner has consistently runs mid to low 10's here in Colorado with just upgraded intake manifolds, exhaust and E85 tuned accordingly. GTR's have it easy from everything I have seen

Re: should BMFB be a big gun??

GTR != truck/SUV

As Larry mentioned - what other trucks are running 10.99?

I found a post from 2003 and most of these times were run well before that.

9.84 @ 137 RWD Typhoon Tom F
9.99 @ 134 RWD Syclone Jerry M
10.16 @ 135 AWD Syclone Matt H
10.26 @ 136 AWD Syclone Rob P
10.29 @ 137 AWD Syclone Les Y
10.31 @ 132 AWD Syclone Guy R
10.71 @ 126 AWD Syclone Tony M
10.73 @ 123 RWD Typhoon Dean O
10.79 @ 126 AWD Syclone Jeff D
10.89 @ 127 AWD Typhoon Jeff M
10.92 @ 127 AWD Syclone Guy L

but how many of those trucks still exist, at least in the state they were when they put down those times.... :dunno:

None. I was going to make an additional point but decided to get back to work.

not true, 2 maybe 3 still exist. Les Young is now Maxtor and has been reproven...and Tony Malinowski is still alive and running sporadically.
