a post in the engine tech forum just reminded me of what i saw under my buddys hood...

is anyone here running this? a friend of mine, has a TT diesel engine in his dually and i saw these nifty little covers over his turbos...way less underhood heat than a syty...he said that they are used in aircraft and marine (boat) applications...hes getting back to me with his suppliers' info for his...i ran a yahoo search and came up with these links...do any of you guys use this? the first link says that perkins stopped making them due to asbestos legislation...they also have a outside supplier making custom ones...i saw this stuff on my friends truck...its really cool, literally...this might actually be good for a stock intercooler as well...

Innovative turbo systems sells them too. Ive got one on the sy and it seems to help a bunch with the heat soaking prob on the upper IC. I think I paid ~120 bucks for mine (its a nice piece so its worth it IMO).

update...my friend called me back with the manufacture info on his...as it turns out, this company makes turbo blankets, manifold blankets as well as a downpipe insulation...i called them and they want pics of my turbo as well as a tape measure for reference and they're gonna get me a quote for my turbo and downpipe...he says he can even send covering for the cat converter as well...they have a new website with some good info... www.insultech.com and they're located in irvine, california...their photo section is a must see for anyone interested...he also said they would do a discount for a GP incase anyone near irvine thinks they could handle one...

i called again after emailing pics and had another chat with the man that actually custom designs these covers...he was very helpful...however, he said that the sales people are in vegas for a show right now...i cannot handle a GP these days, but i am interested in purchasing a setup for my sy...if theres anyone in or near santa ana, california that thinks he/she could handle such a GP, please consider doing so to discuss a possible deal...maybe someone could drive to this facility to show them the average setup...i believe there is a reflective cover underneath the bluish one you see on the last pic... the email address to the man i spoke with is gevaristo@insultech.com ... i asked if he could please register at syty.net and keep tabs on this thread and or post something...he said he would... i linked him to this page as well... i saw this product in person and it appears to be of top quality and can be custom tailored...i could actually hold my hand on the cover and didnt get burned...

Doug that is great………while you are there can they measure up the passenger side exhaust manifold.
I would like to block as much heat as I can from getting to the intercooler. Kind of like this set up.

Servando,

It was good talking to you yesterday. Thanks for calling. As I indicated by phone our blanket covers are made specifically for this type of application. All of our covers are custome made per order. We don't keep a "standard" part in stock. our turnaround time for making these is three to five days.

One other thing you might be interested in is that our standard one inch blanket can lower a surface temperature of say 900 F to around 170 F. That is a ballpark figure however, there are other factors that need to be taken into account for a more specific temperature reduction estoimate.

For example: I would need to know what the actual surface operating temperature is, what the expected "ambient" temperature in the engine compartment is and how much air movement there is too. if anyone on this board has that type of information I can help them detirmain the thickness of the blankets to help them meet their needs.
I can be reached here or e-mail me at jibarra@insultech.com
